Isabella Stewart Gardner’s presence lingers so large that it's hard to believe that July 17 marks the centennial of her death. Isabella was a bold, charismatic, inimitable champion of the arts, the city of Boston, and her own unique, remarkable vision. From her scandalous appearance at the symphony sporting @redsox paraphernalia, to the time she took a lion out for a walk, to the countless artists she supported and concerts she hosted within the Museum's walls, Isabella skillfully arranged her collection — and her life — in ways that continue to inspire and enthrall people across the world. Today, the Museum exists as Isabella's greatest gift and legacy, bequeathed for "the education and enjoyment of the public forever." Over a century after the Museum first opened, Isabella’s spirit remains at its very heart— you need only step through our doors to feel it.

As @wbur recently noted in their Winter Art Guide, “each season ushers new art into exhibition halls throughout Massachusetts,” with one of these halls being the Gardner. Along with Steve McQueen’s "Lynching Tree," the Gardner has “fantastical paintings from London-based artist Raqib Shaw sitting alongside works in its permanent collection.” Visit the following link to learn more about these upcoming exhibitions. https://lnkd.in/eQXb-E9s Image credits: Raqib Shaw, "The Retrospective", 2002–22, 2015–22. "Museums are not simply repositories of art. They humanize the landscape of human events. They connect us to life’s most enduring themes. I have long felt this way about the Gardner, and feel it particularly keenly about a work that will be specially presented at the Museum January 20–February 4, 2024." —Lee Pelton, President of the Boston Foundation & Co-Curator with Peggy Fogelman, Norma Jean Calderwood Director of the Gardner Museum's "Steve McQueen: Lynching Tree" Visit the link below to read Lee Pelton's guest blog. https://lnkd.in/eJhmwBSH
