We are proud of the crew of Seaways Sabine, who were involved in a search and rescue operation off the Egyptian coast following instructions from USS Bulkeley and JRCC Cairo. Our crew successfully rescued 31 individuals from a distressed boat 100 nm off the Egyptian coast. Tragically, one individual succumbed to his injuries, and was declared deceased by the attending US Medics from USS Bulkeley. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the deceased during this difficult time. Anglo-Eastern #maritime #maritimesafety

International Seaways is grateful for the support of DNV - Maritime on our journey to decarbonization. At DNV, we’re proud to support International Seaways, Inc. (INSW) in their journey towards decarbonization. Our Maritime Advisory team has been working closely with INSW to develop a comprehensive decarbonization strategy for their fleet. Our experts provided INSW with a solid understanding of the regulatory environment and the available options, which resulted in a specific decarbonization plan with economically feasible measures for every vessel. “DNV took an industry’s worth of insights, feedback and knowledge and turned it into something very specific and actionable for International Seaways,” says William Nugent, Senior Vice President and Chief Technical and Sustainability Officer at International Seaways. It became clear that a project of this scope necessitated a culture change to bring every employee and stakeholder on board. June 25th is IMO's #DayOfTheSeafarer. International Seaways would like to recognize the contributions and sacrifices made by our seafarers. Here at Seaways, safety is one of our core principles, and the well-being of our crews is paramount. 2024’s theme is #SafetyTipsAtSea, focusing on seafarers’ commitment to safety and how we can make the maritime sector a safer place to work. Our #SafetyTipsAtSea tip of the day is “Always Talk Safety!” Making safety part of the regular conversation raises awareness and puts safety front and center every day. To lead by example, we hold Monthly Safety meetings with our technical managers, encouraging transparency and collaboration, by evaluating incidents and safety concerns, to identify solutions and improve practices. We start our coordination calls with Safety Moments – this keeps safety top-of-mind for everyone in the organization. Our office guests participate in Safety Moments at the start of their visits. We are active members of Together in Safety, cementing our commitment to creating a safer environment for seafarers not just at INSW but across the maritime industry, establishing standardized best practices, processes, and crew training. We are currently working to develop a standardized approach to evaluate new-fuel readiness, accounting for crew training, and safety concerns. Thank you to the seafarers live and breathe and talk about safety every day! #maritime #maritimesafety International Maritime Organization #teamseaways #shipping #safety

#HotOffThePress - Wärtsilä today announced it will supply its EnergoFlow and EnergoProFin propulsion solutions to four medium range tankers in the International Seaways, Inc. fleet. The devices will be used to upgrade the ships’ existing Wärtsilä controllable pitch propeller system resulting in an estimated five percent (5%) in fuel savings. By reducing the fuel consumption of these existing MR tankers, INSW will strengthen its actions towards decarbonised operations and continue to meet their Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) requirements. “As a company dedicated to supporting the marine industry’s decarbonisation efforts, we are delighted to cooperate with International Seaways in improving the fuel efficiency of these four vessels. The Wärtsilä systems selected will not only meet and exceed the minimum required CII rating and IMO targets, but will also improve the ships’ asset resell market value,” comments Jan Othman, Vice President of Project Services, Wärtsilä Marine. Seaways Athens rendered assistance to a sailing vessel in distress off the Costa Rican coast, rescuing two of its crew members. On receipt of distress notification, the captain immediately informed all vessel & cargo stake holders and altered course towards the distress location, which was 60 miles away. When Seaways Athens arrived, the distressed ship which had been disabled & drifting for 4 days, was taking in water due to a hull breach and had broken sails. Once the rescued seafarers were safely on board, medical safety & security protocols were followed by our crew. The gentlemen were provided with food/cabin and were able to use the ship's phone to call their respective families. The two rescued crew, were handed over to Costa Rican coast guard at Gulf of Nicoya and the Seaways Athens resumed her passage. The entire rescue mission lasted for 18 hours. Bravo Zulu to the crew of the Seaways Athens. #maritime #teamseaways #maritimesafety

International Seaways, Inc. is a proud member of Together in Safety, and committed to continuous improvement in all areas of safety.
Together in Safety has undertaken a detailed strategic analysis of shipping incidents which demonstrated there are three fundamental root causes that are resulting in the unnecessary loss of seafarers' lives, unnecessary pollution, and unnecessary expenditure and insurance claims. • The first is leadership – requiring visible safety leadership from the top down, with the right behaviours and mind-set modelled by the CEO and leadership team. • The second is incident prevention – shipping incidents are not accidents, but instead repeatable events that could and should have been avoided. • The third is wellbeing and care – with the need to develop a healthy, happy and high-performing team. The Together in Safety materials and best practice are designed to complement and augment existing company programmes, and they are free to use, to help deliver a sustained improved safety and business performance. One example is our recently issued Golden Safety Rules – if these are put into practice, they will stop incidents from happening.
