  • Our book recommendation for July comes from Denise Ash and is “The Indisputable Existence of Santa Claus” The Mathematics of Christmas” by Dr Hannah Fry and Dr Thomas Oléron Evans. What equations should you use to decorate the Christmas tree? Will calculations show Santa is getting steadily thinner – shimmying up and down chimneys for a whole night – or fatter – as he munches on cookies and milk in billions of houses across the world. The authors demonstrate how applied mathematics are so thoroughly interwoven into our everyday lives by explaining mathematical concepts using Christmas. As an added bonus, Dr. Hannah Fry is speaking at ILTACON next month!

  • Our friends at the Legal Marketing Association (LMA), wanted to let ILTA volunteers know that the LMA 2025 Annual Conference planning has begun and they have opened their LMA25 https://zurl.co/VAm0 . They encourage ILTA thought leaders and SMEs to submit for consideration to share their expertise with our audience and to further deepen our collaboration. They are accepting submissions now through July 22nd and their event will be April 23-25, 2025, at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC! This also will mark LMA’s 40th Anniversary, so it will be a special year. While they welcome all submissions, when thinking about your ILTA community and our domain of Technology Management they are especially interested in hearing from experts who can speak to: •Artificial Intelligence in your role as a legal marketer, including ways AI can enhance your role, pitfalls to avoid, and advanced AI case studies •Engaging and interacting with clients and prospects through social media, digital marketing, and technology •Managing large data sets and using data analytics to make smarter decisions (e.g., benchmarking, competitive intelligence, predicting behavior) •Managing continuous technological change and generating buy-in among internal stakeholders •How technology and marketing teams can work together more strategically •Best practices for integrating your technology stacks – working with your CTO, Accounting team, Conflicts, etc. – to create high-functioning systems •Best practices for using Client Relationship Management (CRM) tools to track interactions, manage client data, and personalize client communication. https://zurl.co/4fgh

  • As Pride Month has drawn to a close, we immensely thank the Women Who Lead committee for passionately promoting diversity and inclusion. Our final focus is Tiffany McLean, a Women Who Lead Committee member and Learning + Training Manager at Warner Norcross + Judd. "Can you share your journey and what pride means to you?” I came out about 30 years ago, at a time when LGBT+ individuals were not as accepted as they are today. Despite the challenges, my journey has been filled with acceptance, love, and personal growth. Initially, I was advised not to share my sexuality with my colleagues due to potential career consequences. Regrettably, I followed that advice out of fear. However, my career thrived after coming out, and I believe it was because I could finally be my true self. Pride means being proud to be part of a diverse and inclusive community, welcoming others, and continuing to learn about different members of the LGBT+ community. "What challenges have you faced in your journey, and how have you addressed them?" My feminine appearance grants me a privilege in my everyday encounters. While some may perceive my challenges as insignificant, they have profoundly impacted me and led me to conceal my authentic self. As a feminine lesbian, I confront unique obstacles. It is often a struggle for people to accept that I am a lesbian, making it easier for me to keep this aspect hidden in professional environments. Although I have not directly addressed this issue, I continually reinforce the idea that we all come in different "packages." This reality does not alter who I am or who I choose to love. "What role have support systems played in your life? Can you talk about the support networks that have been most significant to you?" Having people from the LGBT+ community and allies in my life has had a profound impact. From understanding co-workers to loving parents and a supportive wife, I feel incredibly fortunate to be openly loved and supported. I understand the significance of these experiences, and I aspire to provide the same support to others embarking on their journey of love and self-acceptance. "What advice would you give to allies of the LGBT community who want to support their friends and loved ones?" Be kind. Show concern. Listen. Speak up. "How are you going to celebrate Pride?" My celebration is a vast exhale every June, reflecting on how far I and society have come. I also acknowledge that there is still work to do to ensure protection for all oppressed folks.
