On July 12, Julio Dominguez will be running the bases at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark as a survivor after receiving life-saving care from INTEGRIS Health. After the now-retired U.S. Army officer collapsed at his home in February 2021, he was rushed to INTEGRIS Health Edmond Hospital, where he tested positive for both COVID-19 and pneumonia. At the hospital, Julio’s body wouldn’t respond to medicine or a ventilator, and his heart and lungs couldn’t function on their own. He was transferred to the Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute at INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center where he underwent extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The treatment essentially acts as a working set of heart and lungs for patients in critical condition and is often considered a “last hope." He was hospitalized for almost 90 days and is beyond grateful for the care and support the staff and physicians provided him. “If it wasn’t for INTEGRIS Health, I wouldn’t be here,” he said. “The things they did were remarkable. I’m just lucky to be here.” Julio will be honored as the INTEGRIS Health “Home Run For Life” series continues during the 2024 OKC Baseball Club season. https://lnkd.in/gXsz_JkV

Caple Spence, M.D., a board-certified neurosurgeon with INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center, recently performed the first cranial biopsy in Oklahoma using Stryker’s new Q Guidance System with Cranial Guidance Software. The margin of error when performing a biopsy on the brain is razor thin, but modern, computerized systems like this are making neurosurgery more accurate and safer than ever before. “Even a few millimeters of difference when inserting a needle into the brain to remove a tissue sample for biopsy can result in patient injury or death,” says Spence. “This cutting edge technology is a huge benefit for our patients and our ability to provide cranial biopsies with the highest degree of accuracy and safety.” https://lnkd.in/g4HFJTri

For a full list of tips, please review the article. Leave fireworks to the pros, but if you're handling your own, remember: *No fireworks for small kids. *Sparklers for 12+ with adult supervision. *Always wear eye protection. *No alcohol while handling fireworks. *Use fireworks outdoors only. *Keep a safe distance. *Follow all instructions. *Light one firework at a time, and never relight a "dud" firework. *Keep water nearby for emergencies. Have a safe and happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸 #July4th #SafetyTips #INTEGRISHealth https://lnkd.in/gqNFZ2Vf
