FAIMER has thrived under Dr. Blanck’s steady and supportive leadership. During his tenure, he and the FAIMER team launched important initiatives, including a regional competency-based education program in India, the Eastern Africa FAIMER Regional Institute, and an electronic health record module to support IMGs joining U.S. residency programs. In honor of Freedom Day (Juneteenth), one of Intealth's employee resource groups, the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Network, organized a virtual tour for employees of the National Constitution Center exhibit, "Civil War and Reconstruction: The Battle for Freedom and Equality." If you are an IMG beginning a first-year U.S. residency position, don't miss out on this opportunity to prepare yourself. In the 2023 pilot, 83% of users reported that completing the module helped them feel better prepared for their residency’s EHR orientation. Incoming IMGs who are approved for J-1 visa sponsorship were sent an invitation to the module by Intealth. Program confirmation of matched status is required for non J-1 visa IMGs to access the module. As we look for new ways to meet the health care needs of patients, it is essential that we ensure physician competencies that support safe and effective care. Last week’s first-ever tri-organizational meeting among the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the Medical Council of Canada (MCC), and Intealth is a great example of how we can advance meaningful and rigorous work-based assessment and clinical skills training methods through collaboration. Eric S. Holmboe MD, Intealth CEO, and Jessica Salt MD, Sr. Director, International Graduate Support, at Intealth’s FAIMER division, shared with and learned from a variety of subject matter experts. These conversations are vital to informing Intealth’s work to assess and support international medical graduates (IMGs), who are critically important to the delivery of accessible, high-quality care in the United States.
