Democracy is about people. The work of building resilient democracies that fortify meaningful participation for all people extends beyond analysis and observation. At IFES, our staff and partners work with global and local leaders to advance anti-corruption, inclusion, and technology for democracy, as well as the integrity of elections. Watch this video for a glimpse into the impact of our work and the passion behind it. This video was created with the generous support of Sida. It was fun to share a panel with National Democratic Institute (NDI)'s Richard Klein and International Republican Institute's Jessica Keegan yesterday at InterAction's 2024 Forum. We talked about challenges to electoral integrity during this super year of elections, the importance of democracy assistance, and the links between democracy and broader development aid. Thanks to InterAction for this opportunity to connect with the broader development community and to share a little of the work we do at the The International Foundation for Electoral Systems to protect electoral integrity around the world.

Not all relationships between election management bodies (EMBs) and political parties can be easily amended. In some countries where electoral institutions have been politically compromised, distrust by political actors is often warranted. In other cases, malign political actors intentionally spread disinformation and attack the reputation of EMBs despite election authorities’ best efforts to engage them in transparent communication. In many cases, however, mistrust stems largely from poorly conceived or operated communication channels. Especially in tense political environments, it is easy to mistake unintentional malpractice for deliberate manipulation of information, and EMBs and political parties can both take on a more proactive role to prevent communication challenges from spiraling. Here are eight quick steps to improve these communication channels: https://lnkd.in/dizwZePp
