As an SLP, I am always searching for engaging, hands on activities for older students to capture their attention in speech and language therapy. I love the Find It game for working on carrier phrases (i.e., "I found a..." or "I see a....") in articulation therapy. This game is perfect for addressing sentence formulation, sentence combination, descriptive vocabulary, and answering questions in language therapy as well. The Original Find It game is recommended for students in 5th grade and up. The Kids Find It version is best for students in 3rd through 5th grade. IEP Therapy would like to spotlight Brianna, OTR. Let's get to know a little bit about her. 1. What is your favorite part about working in the schools? I love the creativity of this setting. Not only do I get to exercise my own creativity in the activities that I do with the students, but I also get to see their creative side come out, and be privy to the students' imagination. 2. What is your favorite game to play, activity to do, or lesson to teach in the schools? It's hard to choose one favorite, as I have so many fun go -to activities. But, I love scavenger hunts because it's great for breaking up the routine of the school day, incorporating awareness, attention, visual skills, motor planning, and so many other things. Plus, it can easily be graded for ability, done inside or outside, or done with the focus on a specific skill. 3. Share a fun fact about you! I am the middle child and the only girl, but I am the athletic one in my family. I used to compete in gymnastics, dance ballet, play football and baseball with my brothers, and I love archery and canoeing. 4. What are your special interests, hobbies, or skills? I enjoy gardening, antique shopping, bird watching, crocheting, crafts of all kinds, reading, traveling, hiking, and learning new things. I love being outdoors and am game for trying any creative pursuit at least once. I want to learn how to do more things than I truly have the time to do. And of course, I treasure the time I spend with my family and friends.
