**What would Brian Do** An update on our East Region Trail Specialist, Brian, and his 5 summer bridge projects. Working with multiple partner groups and agencies the crew loaded up a nice USFS 4500 with bridge parts that will be sling-loaded into the work area. Moving forklifts, heavy loads, and mother nature decides to pour down some rain with a lightning storm to accentuate the work as though bringing Frankenstein to life... Funding through an IDPR RTP (Recreation Trails Program, federal gas tax) and hours of volunteer time. Teams from the Palisades Ranger District Rec program, IDPR Motorized Trails staff, a wildland fire crew, and volunteers from Idaho Single Track Alliance have moved many pieces of the 5 Rainey Creek Bridges upstream to their final resting place. Want you like to be part of this event? Drop an email to Brain at Brian.DiLenge@idpr.idaho.gov. In late August and September, there will be volunteer weekends hosted by Tread Lightly and the Snake River Trail Alliance for food, beverages, and construction of these bridges. #volunteer #trailbuilding #bridgebuilding #parksandrec

Amazing shots of the osprey chicks found at Hells Gate State Park by Laurel Gale! These impressive raptors can dive into water at speeds up to 50 miles per hour. Perhaps even more fascinating is their precision. They can spot prey from over 200 feet in the air and dive down with incredible accuracy. While they may not be nearly as strong or fast as eagles, their dive success rate is close to 70%, making them ferociously good fishers. #WildlifeWednesday

The Novels in Nature program - Little Free Library is OPEN at Hells Gate State Park! Jayden Cao, a high school student from Westchester, New York is passionate about improving literacy across the country. “I spent the first 12 years of my life in Beijing China, before coming to America in 2019,” Jayden shares. “My English learning experience and passion for writing/literature therefore inspire me to actively support the cause of literacy. To me, literacy is not a privilege but a right.” Guided by this belief, Jayden is excited to introduce Novels in Nature—an endeavor that places little free libraries in the campgrounds of state parks around the country, offering campers and visitors convenient book access. Partnering with local libraries ensures the continuous circulation of books, allowing for regular updates and maintenance of the libraries within the parks. In effect, Novels in Nature involves various facets of a community to collectively foster literacy and promote reading for pleasure.

This amazing shot of a Barred Owl was captured by Dworshak State Park manager John Seeley earlier this month. Barred Owls have unique calls (click here to listen https://lnkd.in/g9WJexrn ) Many say that it sounds like the owl is saying, "Who cooks for you?" Have you ever seen (or heard!) a Barred Owl? #WildlifeWednesday
