💭 Welcome to our Hunsicker Headspace series, where we highlight unique problems and insights heavy on the minds of our Studio team. For this first edition, we bring you our observations as they relate to the increasing burden being placed on unpaid caregivers across the US as our country’s population continues to age. Family caregivers make up the largest pool of heroes in healthcare, yet are often overlooked despite being integral in shaping patient outcomes. 1️⃣ According to a report by AARP, there are over 48 million unpaid caregivers in the U.S. delivering assistance to adults with limitations in daily activities. Despite their critical role, 2️⃣ 80% report emotional stress 3️⃣ 50% have limited access to external support services 4️⃣ 61% juggle full-time jobs alongside caregiving 5️⃣ and 6 out of 10 report being asked to perform medical procedures like blood pressure monitoring or giving injections that they may not be trained to perform These numbers aren’t just statistics. They depict a stark reality: a rising wave of challenges met with limited support. We see an unmatched opportunity: to leverage technology in bridging these gaps, ensuring caregivers aren’t just working, but thriving.
