HITEC 2024 Highlights: Big News, Big Data and Other Hot Topics HITEC 2024 was a major success, overcoming last year’s travel and scheduling challenges. This year, nearly 6,000 attendees from around the world joined the best event the industry has to offer.   The big news on day one was HITEC organizer Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP®)’s acquisition of Rich Siegel Siegel’s Communications, including Hospitality Upgrade, Hotel-Online, the CIO Summit and my favorite, the Executive Vendor Summit. This move, led by Frank Wolfe CAE, consolidates HFTP’s position at the forefront of global hospitality technology events.   AI was a hot topic, with packed sessions featuring industry leaders like Jason D. [Doebrich] (Virgin Hotels), Jordan Hollander (HotelTechReport.com), Shane O'Flaherty (Microsoft), and Matt Schwartz (Sage Hospitality Group). A key takeaway for me was ensuring AI is genuine, not just old technology with a new label, plus the importance of developing a strategy around AI implementation. This message must resonate as organizations take early or advanced steps in this important trend.   The event wasn’t short on fun either. Growth Advisors International Network - GAIN hosted a showcase at Charlotte Knight’s Baseball Stadium with partners like SHR, Hovr, Hopper, and Microsoft. Their leadership team, including Michael C. Cohen, David Millili, and Karen O'Neill took part in the batting fun.
