About us

HOPICS stands for Homeless Outreach Program, Integrated Care System. We are a Division of Special Services for Groups. We are committed to serving the Community in Service Planning Area 6 (SPA 6) in Los Angeles County (including Lynwood, Paramount and Compton). We are one of the largest housing and homeless service agencies in Los Angeles County and the largest in SPA 6. We offer a range of services from not only housing, but behavioral health, reentry services, harm reduction and more. We serve poor and low-income households with a client-centered 'whatever it takes' approach. This approach is why we are recognized leaders in direct service and advocacy for those experiencing homelessness and housing instability in Los Angeles County.

HOPICS is proud to have been part of the effort that helped almost 28,000 LA county residents find a home. Today, the 2023 #Homeless Count Numbers dropped. The data of our impact speaks for itself. Now imagine what we could do if we had sustained resources. Homelessness in LA would be a thing of the past. Let's pass #MeasureA which is officially on the November ballot. Measure A is the Affordable Housing, Homelessness Solutions and Prevention Now measure. Time to celebrate our successes, learn from the roadblocks, and get to work. It's also easy to not even notice you've become addicted to your phone. Have you tried one of these exercises to help combat that? 1. Delete your social media apps for a week. (Blew my mind how many times in an hour I look at my phone and remember I deleted it. It's really eye opening.) 2. After work (or any time), leave your phone at home and go for a 20-30min walk. Whatever 'emergency' comes during that window will keep for another 20-30min. Plus... you are not 911..... #repost #Fridaymood

Have you experienced Relationship #burnout ? A result of romantic or platonic relationships due to conflicts, communication issues, or unmet needs. This can lead to feelings of resentment, disconnection and emotional exhaustion. Some healthy tips for relationship burnout: 1. Acknowledge how you feel, and to give it a name (angry, disconnected, distant, drained, etc). 2. Now that the ‘issue’ is named it becomes easier to address with your partner. (Remember, don’t just address the person, address the situation.) 3. Share, and listen, not to respond, but to gain clarity and understanding! Happy talking! #mentalhealth #emotionalhealth #relationships #burnout #WellnessWednesday

Oh I really felt this. Holding onto that anger/hurt/unforgiveness/righteous indignation is not healthy or helpful. Justified? Maybe. Harmful? Definitely. Plus, we don't want to wait so long that the word 'regret' could be added to that already heavy list. Thoughts?

Earlier today, we witnessed Mayor Karen Bass's @mayorofla relentless commitment to bringing unhoused individuals indoors and connecting them with vital services. Her urgent and strategic approach in Los Angeles is accelerating affordable housing construction, maximizing city-owned properties for housing, and declaring a state of emergency to tackle homelessness head-on. Through initiatives like Inside Safe, a proactive housing-led strategy, Mayor Bass is ensuring immediate relief by bringing people from tents and encampments into safer environments, with operations supported by city leaders, service providers, and community collaboration. In her first year, over 21,000 Angelenos found shelter—a testament to Mayor Bass's dedication to moving our city forward. . . . #losangeles #la #mayor #mayorkarenbass #mayorofla #lanews #localnews #losangelesnews

#BURNOUT - can show up in a multitude of industries. Care Giver Burn Out is subtle and sneaky like a ninja. I've been there. "It's family. It's my responsibility to take care of them." It became easy to go too hard, too fast for too long. I found myself starting to resent my family member who needed my help. The moment I recognized it... I was like “OHHHH I’m done. This is not fair to her. Or to me.” And I stepped away from doing it. Which was sooooo hard. I felt guilty. But I was becoming no real use to her. I wasn't sleeping well. I was tired all the time, which started bleeding into not being as patient or gracious with her. I was burned out. So I chose to leave. If you can relate with any or all of these symptoms, you may be experiencing burn out. Try to plan out 10-15min for yourself everyday to be by yourself to breathe and ask yourself (without guilty) "What do I need?" And if the answer is "I need to walk away." Don't be harsh with yourself. Sincerely take into consideration what that would look like. You've got this. #mentalhealth #burnout #series #HOPICS #SPA6
