Akwasi Frimpong, Ghana’s first Winter Olympian in Skeleton, shared his incredible journey with Multicultural Advisory Committee, English Language Development, Latinos in Action, Student Government and the E4A Leadership Council students at Viewmont High School. Against all odds, he made history as the first black male athlete to compete in Skeleton at the Winter Olympics. For 17 years, Frimpong overcame failures and broke barriers. His story teaches us the power of perseverance and never giving up. Akwasi emphasized the importance of resilience and chasing dreams. Students got hands-on with his equipment and shared their goals on a cloud board. Team-building games and affirmations spread positivity and motivation. The takeaway? Teach kids to dream big and believe in themselves. Find mentors and surround yourself with like-minded people. Dare to dream, step out of your comfort zone, and never give up. With his sights set on the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, Italy, Akwasi continues to inspire us all to chase our dreams.
