In the second half of 2024, more homes will hit the market, but high prices mean buyers will still face affordability challenges. Redfin’s CEO, Glenn Kelman, remains optimistic, predicting a gradual market upswing thanks to strong demand. Sometimes, you can find the best deals in unexpected places. Savvy homeowners are targeting states with declining populations and low-inventory areas for prime investment opportunities. Nationwide, auction volumes are down — in Q1 2024, the volume was only 49% of what it was in Q1 2020 — but competition is heating up, driving prices higher. Cities like Hartford, CT, and Midland, TX, are seeing a surge in activity, with volume 30% above pre-pandemic levels, and others, like Houma-Thibodaux, LA, and Redding, CA, are touting temptingly low-priced homes.
