Earlier this month, Dawn Mattera, Administrative Director of Critical Care Services and Holy Name’s Emergency Department, Lauren Boniello, ICU Nurse Manager and Sheila Dimarucut, ICU Clinical Coordinator attended the AACN (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses) NTI Conference in Denver, Colorado. They presented "Give CPOT A Shot," a Performance Improvement Project aimed at adopting the Critical Care Pain Observation Tool (CPOT) to improve pain assessment and treatment of intubated patients in the ICU setting. The (CPOT) is an evidence-based and validated method for assessing pain in patients who are not able to communicate. Since the project’s implementation in 2022, CPOT has enabled the ICU team to more accurately assess and treat patients, while reducing ICU length of stay and days of mechanical ventilation. During the conference, the AACN recognized Holy Name for earning two Gold Beacon Awards in telemetry/intermediate care and intensive care. #ICU #NTI2024 #AACN #Conference
