Because critical limb ischemia (CLI) has many complexities and nuances, it is essential to work together to develop effective treatment strategies. The Amputation Prevention Symposium, to be held this week in Chicago, will bring together a diverse group of clinicians working together to improve the future for CLI patients. "I am in my own recovery. I had my first onset of childhood depression at the age of seven, and recovery is a beautiful way of life. But in my family, not everyone had the gift of recovery." We are honored to have Ashley Judd join us at Psych Congress as this year's Keynote Speaker. Hear her personal story during this heartfelt session that will delve into the profound impacts of grief, the journey towards healing, and the essential role of mental health support in overcoming loss. This session was developed in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. #PsychCongress2024 #mentalhealth #mentalhealthcare

Today’s EMS professionals respond to drug overdoses and mental health issues. They face personal injury, hazardous work environments, assaultive behavior, and recently, a pandemic. “The paramedic has 1,200 or so hours of training, can start IVs, give you medication, and has a radio to connect to an emergency room,” said Richard Carmona, the 17th U.S. Surgeon General and a longtime first responder. “It's an extraordinary privilege to make the selfless decision that you will risk your life for the benefit of someone else. First responders do that every single day.” His story and others are featured in the documentary, "Into the Unknown: The Paramedics' Journey," highlighting the lifesaving work of emergency medicine. Should patients be required to fast prior to a cardiac catheterization? The latest Clinical Editor's Corner for Cath Lab Digest, "Fasting vs Non-Fasting Status: It’s Time to End the NPO Order for Most Patients," examines this issue. "Moving from fasting to ad lib liquids would eliminate the need to alter insulin doses, reduce volume depletion, hyperglycemia, and the number of disgruntled, hungry patients who complain about the quality of our cath lab procedures," said Dr. Morton Kern, interventional cardiologist.
