What an amazing two days of team building! After focusing on HITEC's future, priorities, and professional development, there was time for some fun. The team was able to enjoy time together at a Chicago Cubs game Tuesday evening, escaping the rain. The weather was great Wednesday, where we all learned about the architectural gems of the Windy City, from the ideal vantage point of a cruise down the Chicago River. Focusing on learning and the future growth of HITEC, while mixing in fun and team building, has invigorated our focus while strengthening our relationships and commitment to each other and to our mission. ¡Gracias, Chicago! #hitec #teambuilding #growth #architectofgrowth #hispanictechnologyprofessionals

Yesterday, the HITEC team gathered for a strategy session in Chicago, in the offices of 1871. Our local Chicagoans warmly welcomed team members from all over - Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Kentucky, Texas and California! With the help of Jesse Cortez from McKesson, we were led by Ann Tackett through Core Strengths. Through the insightful exercises, we each learned about our individual strengths and how to amplify our collective strengths as a team. Following a productive morning, Jesse provided a brief history of HITEC, and his involvement with the organization through the Board. Omar Duque then shared HITEC's priorities as the organization grows, and how the team will contribute and support the growth. Our time together was well spent, leaving team members energized and committed to the HITEC mission of empowering Hispanic Technology Professionals. #hitec #chicago #teambuilding #growth #hispanictechnologyprofessionals

Change is best made by holding a position of high impact, such as that of an executive leader. Given Latinos hold such a small percentage of leadership positions, it is imperative for Latinos to unite and invest in each other's success to drive meaningful change. Positioning Latinos as the economic, workforce, and social superpowers they are while also investing in them will result in tangible success. Driving change in the tech industry starts with representation. Effective leadership during times of change requires empathy, accountability, investment, and positive influence.
