As the new Global Head of Training at Hinz Consulting, I (Len Miller) want to update everyone on our current training offerings for our Industry. Key elements in winning new and recompete business are setting up successful pursuit opportunities via thorough and disciplined Business Development (BD), Capture, and Proposal processes; and being able to develop higher-quality proposals that lead to winning more business should be the outcome.  A major step in being able to apply these key elements is training your employees in what is expected of them when they are asked to perform and support BD, Capture, and how they can successfully contribute to a winning proposal effort. Hinz Consulting’s Training courses are designed to do exactly that through a combination of instructor-led training modules, practical exercises, and a knowledge-based examination during the training.  Our Training Courses are not the typical “off-the-shelf” courses, but instead are tailored to each Client’s needs and use as much relevant Client reference material as part of examples and exercises throughout each course presentation. We also work with our clients to create customized training for a specific training need. For example, we have a large energy/infrastructure client who desired a shortened proposal writing course (~2 hours vs. normal 8 hours). We took our existing course and collaborated with them to create this custom 2-hour proposal writing course.  #Training #GovernmentContracting #Proposals

There is Something Special about Giving Your Time, Knowledge, and Wisdom to Others. Mentoring has always been and will always be part of who I am. I remember being mentored as a young pre-teen by youth leaders in my church and then during my first job after high school. I had mentors during my time in the Air Force and during college. I have always had at least one mentor in my life. After several years in my first job after graduating college, I started giving back by mentoring others and have continued to be a mentor to many talented professionals. I have been in the GovCon BD industry for over 40 years now. I love pursuing and winning new business. But nothing excites me more than helping others succeed through training and mentoring. To be able to share what I have learned; to teach others to do what I have learned to do, and to see that light bulb turn on over their head never gets old. For those of us who have picked up amazing skills along the way; have been blessed with great work experiences and have been placed in leadership positions, I honestly believe we owe it to ourselves and to our industry to help those less experienced and those making career transitions. Mentoring these folks is one way to give back. For you who are interested in being a mentor, here are some key things to remember: 1. No matter your position in life or work, be an extraordinary leader and adopt a Servant Leadership mindset 2. Be generous with your time and your knowledge, but also respect the time of others  3. Help others make meaningful connections through your network 4. Remember what your mentor did to support you as you were progressing in your career 5. Continue to seek mentorship so you can continue to grow and have someone objective to bounce career and life ideas off of. 6. Help train the next generation of BD professionals, so we leave this industry better off than it was when we joined it. 7. Adopt an “Even If" versus a "What If" mindset as this will help keep you focused no matter the circumstances. If you want to chat about mentorship ideas, DM me (Len Miller), and let's get the conversation started. #BD #Mentoring #Proposals
