Our mission is to preserve, protect and enhance the 71-mile legacy Canal in partnership with the public.
About us
The mission of the High Line Canal Conservancy (Conservancy) is to preserve, protect and enhance the 71-mile long High Line Canal in partnership with the public. The Conservancy is a nonprofit, tax-exempt project under the umbrella of our fiscal sponsor, the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center. The Conservancy was formed in 2014 by a passionate coalition of private citizens to provide leadership and harness the region’s commitment to protecting the future of the High Line Canal. With multi-jurisdictional support and in partnership with Denver Water, the Conservancy is connecting stakeholders in support of comprehensive planning to ensure that the High Line Canal is protected and enhanced for future generations. Our Canal is one of the nation’s most spectacular linear parks, connecting communities, people and nature. Our vision for the future is a permanently preserved 71-mile linear greenway that: ➢ Creates Connections: the Canal connects diverse communities and people to each other and to nature; ➢ Enhances Recreation: the Canal serves as a recreational spine that stitches together a regional trail system; ➢ Leverages Economic Growth: the Canal is an urban generator that infuses new life into the economy of surrounding communities; and ➢ Improves Environmental Health: the Canal is an ecological asset supporting 71-miles of wildlife and natural environment.

Today marks a historic moment for the High Line Canal! We're thrilled to announce that the Canal is now permanently protected through a conservation easement deeded by Denver Water to the High Line Canal Conservancy, and with it, the transfer of ownership to Arapahoe County of nearly two-thirds of the iconic greenway. This collaborative and visionary move ensures the protection of the High Line Canal as a treasured natural open space for today and future generations of walkers, bikers, and nature lovers. “With the new ownership and conservation easement in place, Arapahoe County, the High Line Canal Conservancy, and Denver Water have collectively secured the Canal’s future. This ensures that it will be here as an essential natural open space, free and accessible to the public forever," says Paula Herzmark, Board Chair of the High Line Canal Conservancy.
