ERC Update: For those who thought the Employee Retention Credit was thrown to the wayside, we have a major update for you. On June 20th, after coming under fire from Congress, the IRS announced it would begin processing some of the older claims.

We're halfway through the year, and time flies after the summer! Jessica Hetzler, MBA, a manager in HHM's tax department, shares her top five things you can do now to ensure a smooth January 2025 information reporting process: 1. E-filing Requirement: E-filing is mandatory for most forms, including 1099s and W-2s, if you file 10 or more federal forms. Review your electronic filing options and start the Transmitter Control Code application process if needed. 2. Forms W-9: Obtain signed W-9s when setting up vendors. Ensure the vendor name matches the W-9, and keep copies on file. 3. Monitor Transactions: Watch for unusual transactions that might require 1099 reporting. Contact us if unsure. 4. Software Updates: Ensure your accounting software is updated and compatible with 2024 filings. Verify settings and vendor details now. 5. Order Forms Early: Check if pre-printed forms are needed and order them in November or December to avoid January shortages. Another successful annual HHM Chattanooga Field Day in the books! Our team enjoyed a fun-filled day under the sun, competing in nostalgic field day games. The afternoon wasn't complete without a ten-key contest to show off our accountants’ skills! A big shout out to our annual partners, Howard High School Baseball, for opening their fields to us and officiating to ensure a fair competition. And a big thank you to Kona Ice for keeping us refreshed with cool treats all day long! Building a relationship with Howard High School over the past five years and getting to know their players has been a highlight of the annual event!
