Do you have a budget? Do you know how to create a budget that will work? Here's the basics. Know what's coming in - total all of your income – Do this on a monthly basis. – Include only your take home pay. Know what's going out - add up all of your monthly expenses. – Use a monthly average for the bills that vary monthly. – For annual bills, divide the yearly cost by 12 for a monthly figure. Are your needs covered - the bills you can't miss? – Rent, mortgage, loans, credit payments. – Ideally, collectively, your bills should not exceed 35 to 40 percent of gross monthly income. A good goal is to know the places where you can save money and what you can reasonably spend.
