Statement from Chief Maggie DeBoard: Great organizations are never satisfied with where they are. They remain focused on where they aspire to be. Last year, the Herndon Police Department took its first culture survey and was awarded the Great Company Culture, Excellence in Leadership Award. While we were happy to receive this honor, we immediately went to work to improve in those areas that revealed opportunities for growth, as our employees pointed out. It involved ongoing work on my part to increase communication from the top, work from our supervisors and commanders to develop a leadership pledge we have all signed and strive to live by, and the creation of an engagement committee run by our staff that works each week to make HPD an enjoyable place to work. That hard work resulted in another award this year, with an improved score. More importantly, however, it resulted in improvements in our culture, our communication, and our engagement throughout the agency. #culturematters #BeHerndonPolice #CultivateID #SaraHaines
I am honored to share that Cultivate is in our second year of supporting Herndon Police Department and their intentional efforts to continue to work on their culture and engagement of their officers. Culture and engagement should not be reserved solely for civilian sectors; it is equally vital, if not more so, for those in first responder communities like Herndon Police Department. Investing in culture and engagement among our first responders not only enhances their well-being but also directly impacts their effectiveness on the job. A positive culture fosters trust, resilience, and teamwork, crucial elements in high-pressure situations. It promotes mental health, reduces turnover, and ultimately improves community safety. Herndon Police Department recently completed their second annual CultureID survey, achieving the Great Organizational Culture Award for the second consecutive year, with an increased score. This accomplishment highlights their commitment to fostering a supportive environment for their officers and stresses the value of ongoing culture and engagement initiatives in law enforcement. Cultivate is proud to witness the dedication of Herndon Police Department to this cause and the tangible benefits it brings to their officers and the community they serve. Let's continue to prioritize culture and engagement across all sectors, recognizing its profound impact on organizational success and public service excellence. #LawEnforcement #PoliceCulture #FirstResponders #OrganizationalCulture #EmployeeEngagement #CommunitySafety #PoliceWellness #Teamwork #PublicServiceExcellence #CultivateSupports

Chief DeBoard has not only built a progressive wellness program in the Herndon Police Department, but has also been a staunch advocate for first responder wellness across the Commonwealth. Now she has formed a foundation to build private wellness centers for first responders throughout Virginia and beyond. We are extremely thankful for her leadership in this area and her willingness to go above and beyond to address the critical needs of our first responder community.
