We have a lot to learn from Maine here in Colorado. With just around 1.3 million residents, they've installed 115,492 heat pumps since 2019.
"Heat pump installation is one of the state climate plan’s brightest spots, said Hannah Pingree, the director of the Governor’s Office of Policy, Innovation and the Future. One of the coldest and most rural U.S. states is leading the country in heat pump deployment, Pingree said."
Maine has made major strides towards its climate goals. One in five new homes there has a heat pump, and its installation rate is three times higher than the rest of the country’s. It’s also projected to meet their goal of weatherizing 17,500 homes a year ahead of schedule. That’s some serious progress.
But the Pine Tree State has its work cut out for it. Right now, the state is falling short of hitting its electric vehicle and land conservation targets. And heat pump installations and EV rebates aren’t reaching low- and moderate-income Mainers at nearly the rates that they should. There are challenges ahead on this journey towards our clean energy future, to be sure – but they can be overcome. Let’s get to work! https://bit.ly/415nGHv
