Updates

  • HealthWorks proudly hosted students from Herndon High School as part of their externship program. These graduating seniors spent the week shadowing information technology managers, medical assistants, and front desk staff. They learned about operations at a community health center, how projects are completed, and the importance of teamwork. Director of Human Resources Rochelle Fashaw (far left) and Volunteer Manager Susan Cleveland (far right) celebrated Emily Griffith, Thea Flamiano, Wyatt Anderson, Tavia Fife, Aarthi Bharathan, Aaria Sen, and Islitha Kotichintala prior to their graduation earlier this month. The HealthWorks team congratulates them on their achievements!

  • HealthWorks for Northern Virginia cut the ribbon on our new Radiology Suite at our Leesburg center at 163 Fort Evans Road NE. Detecting cancer early is critical to beginning treatment so that patients have the greatest chance for a successful outcome. By providing radiology services, HealthWorks can offer vital services to patients who might not otherwise be able to afford these offerings. “Providing diagnostic and screening mammograms and ultrasounds will expand access to many HealthWorks patients,” said Tonya Adkins, MD, CEO of HealthWorks. “Even with the discounted rates offered by local radiology providers, a large number of patients were unable to afford these screening and went without them for many years.” Our radiology services include: • 3D Screening Mammography – a three-dimensional x-ray picture of the breast that can detect early signs of breast cancer. • 3D Diagnostic Mammography – enhanced imaging using a 3-dimenstional x-ray to diagnose unusual breast changes, such as a lump, pain, nipple thickening or discharge, or a change in breast size of shape. • Advanced Diagnostic Ultrasound – a non-invasive, painless imaging procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to identify gynecological disorders and provides views of a baby. We were pleased to be joined by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis Randall, Supervisor Kristen Umstattd, Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk, representatives from the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, and members of the HealthWorks Board of Directors.

  • Rosa Reyes has worked as a Medical Assistant III at HealthWorks for four years. What is her favorite part of being a member of HealthWorks? My favorite part is connecting with the people; being able to provide that extra help to people I can relate to. For me, when I help someone with a language barrier and go that extra mile to help them with what they need, whether it’s translating or assisting with filling out a form they don’t understand, advocating for their needs through an intake, finding them resources, even talking patients through injections to calm them down, it’s the best feeling – I feel like I’m helping family, it’s almost personal.
