Last month, we celebrated Pride Month, a time to celebrate LGBTQIA+ people and to reflect on the global movement for equal rights for people within the LGBTQIA+ community. Throughout the year, it's imperative to recognize the mental health challenges facing the LGBTQIA+ community and highlight the resources which support them. Check out our latest article, featuring two of our clinicians trained in LGBTQIA+ counseling, to learn more. Link here- https://lnkd.in/ezmnWkTF

Peter Edwards, a pastor and professor of family ministries, has lived with depression since he was young. "Much of my life has been taken up by attempts to do the living thing instead of the depressive and fearful thing," says Peter. He says that working with a therapist and turning towards God helps him to live in a deeper awareness and acceptance of self. Learn more about Peter in our latest lived experiences article, "Peter's Journey Into Self." HBH team members and their loved one’s gathered at Quinsigamond State Park in Worcester, MA in June for a fun-filled company picnic. The picnic aimed to bring HBH staff members from different teams and departments together with delicious food, fun activities, and swimming in the water. Bees And Thank You, a stellar food truck catering company located in Worcester, MA offered delicious grilled cheese sandwiches to all in attendance. The team also enjoyed amazing cupcakes from Carefree Cakery in Amherst, MA. Outdoor games and face painting were in abundance. And fortunately, the rain and thunderstorms held off for until the last hour of the picnic! All in all, the HBH summer company picnic was a fun-filled success! #carefreecakery #beesandthankyou #handelbehavioralhealth

The motivation to self-harm and nature of self-harm depends on the individual. Most people self-harm as a coping mechanism for emotional distress and overwhelm. In order to break the cycle of self-harm, treatment is often aimed at recognizing and treating the underlying causes such as low self-esteem, impulsivity, shame, depression, trauma, abuse, family dysfunction, and conflict. A mental health professional trained in self-harm will help the individual replace maladaptive behaviors with healthier and more productive ones. Our trained mental health professionals at Handel Behavioral Health have the knowledge and skills to support individuals in their recovery from self-harm. With compassion and validation, our clinicians will help you identify and address the emotional pain that you’re experiencing. You will learn to tap into your inner strength and guidance to replace maladaptive coping behaviors with positive ones that empower and enrich your life.
