Empowering Success One by One

About us

Haynes Family of Programs provides specialized treatment and educational services to children with special needs relating to emotional development, autism, Asperger’s Disorder, learning disabilities, neglect and abandonment. It was founded in October 1946 by LeRoy Haynes, a former chaplain at the Fred Nellis Youth Authority in Whittier, as a way to help many of the troubled boys he served through intervention and treatment in a home-like setting. The group home facility has grown from its initial 10 residents to six cottages, each housing 12 children. Mental health treatment services are provided to every resident. The Haynes Education Center, a non-public school founded in 1989 as a companion to the group home facility, initially provided schooling to the children of what was formerly LeRoy Boys Home. It has grown to serve not only the children who live on campus but the community as a whole, accepting children (boys and girls) from 14 school districts throughout Southern California. Credentialed teachers working in a highly structured environment address curriculum as well as learning disabilities including autism, emotional challenges and developmental disabilities. The entire facility serves 350 to 400 children annually through its three basic programs — residential, Haynes Education Center and mental health. Our Mission: Our mission is to strengthen the mind and spirit of children with emotional problems, special learning difficulties and developmental needs by providing specialized programs in a nurturing, caring and therapeutic environment.

  • What an incredible performance by our Renaissance Community Prep/Joan Macy School students in their rendition of "Colonists Against Tyranny"! 👏 These students worked incredibly hard to master their roles, memorize their lines, and bring this play to life - including all the students who worked behind the scenes on the set design and stagehand duties. 💪 The audience in attendance was delighted to see so much live action, including a fighting scene between the colonists pushing back the British soldiers all the way back to Boston! 💥 A special thank you to our Drama Director, Cythia Bowers, and all our staff who contributed to the play's success! ❤️

  • Our Summer All-Staff Party is one of our favorite days of the year! 🥳 We love celebrating the incredible people who dedicate their time and talents to the children, youth, and families in our care. It takes a village to change 100,000 lives and counting! ✨ Thank you so much to our wonderful HR department who coordinated this year's fiesta, to our maintenance crew who helped set everything up, and to all the departments that hosted game booths. ❤️ Everyone enjoyed the sunny weather, fun games, and delicious tacos - courtesy of our very own cafeteria crew!🌮 Thank you for being a part of our Haynes/David & Margaret Family! ☀️

  • Our vocational training program not only helps students develop skills for future careers, it's also one of their favorite school activities! 🔨💪 During the 2023-24 school year, our students transformed this unused pool house space into a hangout lounge, complete with fresh paint, new couches, a TV, and a ping-pong table. 🛋️📺🎮 This awesome hangout spot is a great incentive for students to finish all their work and practice positive behavior, made even more rewarding knowing they helped bring it to life! ✨
