About us
The Hawk Center for Investment Analysis at the Wisconsin School of Business provides programs in investment education and prepares graduate and undergraduate students for careers in the industry. While the Hawk Center is most well-known for the Applied Security Analysis Program (ASAP), it also oversees the Capital Management Club (CMC) and Applied Equity Market Research (AEMR) Class. The Applied Security Analysis Program (ASAP) began in 1970. As the longest-running program of its kind, it remains one of the nation's leading academic programs for applied investment education. Students in ASAP have the unique opportunity to manage close to $20 million of actual stocks and bonds. Under the guidance of an advisory board of investment professionals, teams of students conduct research and maintain complete control over a diverse portfolio of assets. Students gain hands-on familiarity with the modern financial tools industry professionals rely on, such as Bloomberg® Terminals, FactSet® Analytics, and Morningstar® financial data. With direct experience controlling assets, and comprehensive classes in evaluating company business models, risk assessment, and valuation, students graduate with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful. The program has two degree tracks which include and MBA and MS in Finance (open to UW undergraduate students). For more information on our MBA Degree, please visit: https://wsb.wisc.edu/programs-degrees/mba/full-time/career-specializations/applied-security-analysis For more information on our MS Degree, please visit: https://wsb.wisc.edu/programs-degrees/ms-in-finance/program-overview In addition to working with graduate students, the Hawk Center works directly with undergraduate students through AEMR and CMC. These opportunities are only open to undergraduate students who are already studying at UW-Madison. Last week the Hawk Center second year MBA and MS students made their annual finance trek to Chicago. We’d like to thank our alumni Bill Nygren, Dan Nicholas and Sean Bidzinski for hosting us at Harris Associates and Damien Conover for hosting us at Morningstar. These company visits are critical for the student’s real world learning experiences and networking opportunities. Thank you to all the alumni who showed up for students’ presentations and reception that evening, it was great to see all of you.
