The Sunshine Dairy Apartments, located in Portland’s NE Kern neighborhood, redeveloped a full city block previously housing the Sunshine Dairy Foods supplier into a 235,000 SF seven story mixed-use and residential building. The first two stories are circular plans encompassing an interior private courtyard. Above the second story, the building separates to two parallel towers. Parking is provided underground, which spans the full 200’ by 200’ building footprint including below the main level private courtyard. HHPR provided full structural design and construction administration services on this project which included an 18” thick concrete mat slab foundation, three levels of post-tensioned reinforced concrete, and five stories of light framed timber. Over 7,600 cubic yards of concrete requiring over 850 truck deliveries with 175 tons of reinforcing steel was placed during construction. As you can see from the attached photos, the site went from a giant hole in the ground to seven stories above grade in approximately one year. The final construction will provide 271 apartments, parking for 385 bikes & over 110 vehicles.

It was great pleasure to be a part of this beautiful project and provide the civil engineering services for Black Butte Ranch.
Kicking off the weekend at Lakeside at Black Butte Ranch. In designing the pool facility and bistro, Hacker set out to both honor and evolve the Northwest modern aesthetic of Black Butte Ranch. Because of the site’s stunning setting, it was essential that the building be secondary to the landscape — that the architecture serve as an aperture for the site, making connections to the land stronger and more immediate. https://lnkd.in/gJqQkZrt Architecture/Interiors: Hacker Construction: Kirby Nagelhout Construction Company Landscape: Walker Macy MEP: PAE Structural: Madden & Baughman Engineering, Inc Civil: Harper Houf Peterson Righellis Inc. At last week's AIA24 Conference in Washington DC, Lakeridge Middle School was honored with two national awards. The AIA Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) awarded Lakeridge with an Education Facility Design Award, and WoodWorks recognized Lakeridge with a Wood in Architecture Award! We are thankful to the Lake Oswego School District who challenged us to rethink how classroom design might better support students; to incorporate sustainability, biophilia, and resiliency; to promote equity; and to utilize local wood products. Exciting News! Allen Boulevard/92nd Avenue Shared-Use Path Connection was recognized as a 2024 DJC Top Project! HHPR provided a multi-disciplinary design team for this project delivered through the City of Beaverton The improvements completed a critical gap in the Fanno Creek Trail, allowing users to safely navigate this segment that previously placed users on the roadway. The trail serves approximately 12,000 people per month and is an important recreation and transportation corridor. The project adapted traditional techniques in a unique way, combining a trail, a rapid rectangular flashing beacon, and a roundabout to address challenging crossings and substandard geometry. The resulting improvements are a creative blend of transportation tools that establish a safe and efficient connection of the Fanno Creek Trail.
