Our President, Rick Jensen, recently had the opportunity to travel to Washington DC to advocate for the food industry with The International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA) (IFDA). While he was there, he met with our state’s Senators and Representatives to speak about legislation that will impact family-owned businesses and their team members, as well as the communities that Harbor serves. Thank you IFDA for coordinating this impactful mission!

Harbor has been a family-owned and operated business since 1923, when it was founded by Carl V. Erickson. For over a century, our company has been built on the principles and values instilled by our founding father Carl – hard work, integrity, and a commitment to serving our community. As we celebrate Father's Day, we honor Carl V. Erickson's legacy. Our family roots run deep, and it is this foundation that allows us to understand the importance of nurturing relationships, both within our own Harbor teams and with our valued customers. From our Harbor family to yours, we wish you a Happy Father's Day!

Some of our awesome IT, Marketing, Operations, and Supply Chain team members visited Salish Middle School last week for their Career Day to chat with the students about what they do at Harbor, and get the students excited about future career options! Our team had a great time sharing stories from their time at Harbor, sharing advice, and answering a ton of fantastic questions. The students were super engaged and curious to learn about all the different opportunities we have here at Harbor. A big thank you to our team members who volunteered their time and to Salish Middle School for hosting us!

It's that time of year again! Join us for our annual #HarborOutAndAbout highlights, where we celebrate the summer adventures of our team members. From hiking scenic trails to camping under the stars, or checking out one of our customers stores or restaurants, our team loves exploring the communities we serve on the West Coast. Kicking off this year's campaign, we're thrilled to highlight the adventures of Tyler, Grace, and Wayne. Tyler braved the elements and summited Colchuck Peak in the picturesque Leavenworth, WA area. Grace spent quality time with her family, camping amidst the serene surroundings of Morton, WA. Wayne enjoyed a scenic hike with family to Wallace Falls! Stay tuned as we share more tales of our team's summertime fun throughout the season!

This past weekend some of our team, sponsored by Harbor Cares, participated in Women’s Build Day with South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity at their Tumwater, WA build site. It was a rewarding hands-on day cutting lumber, installing insulation, and contributing towards the house building progress for a future homeowner located right here in Harbor’s backyard. Thank you to South Puget Sound Habitat For Humanity for hosting this event where we were able to team build while learning new skills, and to Shanna Paxton Photography for capturing the memories of the day.

Today, we celebrate Ethel Erickson and all the amazing mothers who shape our lives, businesses, and communities through their love, resilience, and tireless efforts. When West Coast Grocery Co., known today as Harbor Foods, was founded in Aberdeen, WA, in 1923, Ethel was part of the three-person workforce alongside her husband Carl V. Erickson and business partner Eric Adolphson. Ethel balanced being a devoted mother to their sons Carl and Jim while taking on important operational tasks like preparing the daily bank deposits - a role she faithfully carried out well into her 80s. We want to wish all of our Mom’s at Harbor Foods past & present, a Happy Mother's Day!

April is Million Mile Month here at Harbor, which means our team has been lacing up and hitting the trails, roads and paths to log as many miles as possible. It's a fun, friendly competition to see who can rack up the most miles while prioritizing health and wellness. To help fuel everyone's active endeavors, we recently had a Salad & Sandwich Day at our distribution centers. With crisp greens, colorful veggies, lean proteins and zesty dressings, everyone left feeling nourished and energized to keep those steps up for Million Mile Month! A big thanks to our incredible team for making it a healthy and delicious day!

At Harbor, we're passionate about protecting the stunning natural beauty of the West Cost, and of our planet. More than just words, we actively work to reduce our environmental impact through sustainable business practices. As an Adopt a Roadway sponsor, our team routinely rolls up our sleeves to keep our local roads clean and green. We've also implemented strategies to minimize waste, and infuse eco-friendly practices into our operations. Together, we can preserve the natural wonders that make the West Coast so breathtaking for generations to come.

20 years ago today, Harbor Wholesale, then known as Harbor Wholesale Grocery, acquired Bur-Bee Wholesale Distributors in Walla Walla, WA! This strategic move allowed us to expand our footprint into Eastern Washington and Oregon, and start serving even more customers in the region. In the photo of news article about the acquisition, Kevin Pribilsky is quoted, sharing his thoughts about the sale of Bur-Bee at the time. It's come full circle, as Kevin Pribilsky joined the Harbor family in 2021 as our President of Harbor Foodservice! We're so proud to celebrate 20 incredible years since this milestone acquisition. Here's to many more decades of growth and success!
