Earlier this week, we presented the Green Gown Awards alongside other EAUC international programmes at the United Nations High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. 📣 🎉 It's finalist announcement day! We're absolutely delighted to officially reveal the finalists of the 2024 UK & Ireland Green Gown Awards delivered in association with UK Research and Innovation. Following careful deliberation from our panel of judges, this year's shortlist consists 133 finalists from 84 institutions from across the UK & Ireland. Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry and congratulations to everyone who has made the final. We look forward to sharing your projects over the next months before announcing the winners at an awards ceremony in Edinburgh on 13 November - we hope can you join us! Reflecting on this year's impressive finalists, Susan Simon, Environmental Sustainability Programme Director at UKRI, said: “The Green Gown Awards are consistently demonstrating the commitment of the research community to tackling the impact of science on the environment. Each year we are presented with new, innovative and inspirational projects nominated for these awards. ✍🏽 Just a few days left to submit your application for a Green Gown Award 2024! We want to recognise the sustainability initiatives & ideas being carried out in your post-16 education institutions across the UK & Ireland! This includes projects being developed in the areas of learning and skills development. Last year, Anglia Ruskin University won the Green Gown in this category for the development of its co-designed Ruskin modules - compulsory, credit-bearing courses that equip students with the skills to apply sustainability knowledge to their subject areas. The judges welcomed underlying objective to give all students more skills in how to apply climate change to their subject areas. And they were impressed by the institutional-wide approach. Entries for the UK & Ireland Green Gown Awards close on Wednesday 5 June! In the Student Engagement category, we're looking for projects where staff & students have worked together to achieve sustainability goals. Kingston University took home the 2023 award in this category for its Sustainability Innovation Challenge that got students thinking critically about all things climate-related through lightning talks, in-curricular sessions and hackathons!
