It is important to remember that values are not meant to be permanent. As your organization evolves, re-work your values to better align with the future of your workplace. In today's fast-paced business world, it's tempting to look for quick fixes and immediate wins. But culture isn't something you can achieve overnight with a new set of values or a catchy slogan. It's a long-term investment that requires daily attention and commitment. Recently, Boeing has been ridiculed in the press for mechanical failures. What was once a company known for quality has now taken a focus on efficiency and financial gain. On this week's episode of Great Mondays Radio, your host, Josh Levine dives into the consequences of short-term gains and the effect on organizational culture. Investing in culture is about more than just being good for customers or employees—it's about ensuring long-term success for the entire organization, including shareholders. Be sure to check out the episode, wherever you get your podcasts! #GreatMondaysRadio #companyculture #longtermgains #cultureinvestment

People initiatives can play a huge role in developing your company culture. At Thumbtack, a major piece of people initiatives comes in the form of performance reviews. And over the last few years, the company has taken a deep dive into their performance review process and discovered some key areas for improvement. Historically, they conducted biannual reviews focusing on strengths and development opportunities. Recently though, it became clear that the evaluation criteria lacked clarity, leading employees to be uncertain about expectations and metrics for success. On this week’s episode of Great Mondays Radio, Thumbtack’s Chief People Officer Jelena Djordjevic discusses how Thumbtack’s review process has evolved to focus on the “what” and the “how.” According to Jelena, the “what” refers to business impact while the “how” centers on skills, behaviors, collaboration and leadership. Check out the latest episode of Great Mondays Radio to learn more about empowering your employees through clear expectations and balanced evaluations, fostering both individual growth and team success! Offsite meetings? Yes please! Recently, Josh had the fantastic opportunity to chat with Tony Stubblebine, CEO of Medium, on the transformative impact of gathering his distributed team for offsite meetings. Though organizing these events involves significant expense and coordination, the payoff is immense. Tony shared a remarkable insight: the strategic innovations spurred by these offsites allowed Medium to recoup their investment within just 10 days! On Great Mondays Radio, we often highlight the benefits of in-person collaboration. It's a game-changer, boosting energy, engagement, and ensuring everyone is on the same page. For companies navigating the complexities of a remote, international workforce, Josh highly recommends establishing an annual offsite agenda. It’s more than a meeting; it’s a chance for team members to forge deeper connections and make pivotal decisions that propel the company forward. They can return to the home office with a renewed understanding and purpose for their work. Could your team benefit from offsite programming? Join us this week on Great Mondays Radio to hear Tony’s tips and tricks for gathering your distributed team for an efficient, beneficial weekend away.

In a 2023 “Women in the Workplace'' McKinsey Report, studies show that women are more ambitious than ever. Although there have been improvements in female leadership statistics, representation for women at the top has moved at a slower pace than desired. Between 2018 and 2023, women in manager and director positions only saw about 2-4% growth. This slow growth makes it difficult for women to be next in line for leadership positions. For any organization, the presence of women in leadership should not just be a numbers game - it’s about fostering an environment where diverse leadership thrives. The key to effective programming? You have to walk the talk. Aligning your actions to your values, creating policies that support career growth for all employees, and providing mentorship and sponsor initiatives to support women are ways you can make a conscious effort to diversify the voices that lead your organization.

In our workplaces, culture should not be a backdrop, but rather the very essence of our professional environments. It is built on values, processes, structures and policies that reveal how we are expected to behave within the community. While we often look at culture from a workplace perspective, Samantha Stilwell has started to see it as an extension of our human nature. With her knowledge of anthropology, she understands that culture is more than a checklist of behaviors; it’s about fostering an environment where everyone feels part of a community. In the past, survival was dependent on physical defense. Today, our shield is the community that we belong to. On Samantha's Great Mondays Radio, she and Josh explore how the social aspects of human nature tie into our vision of success. Through common experiences, clear communication and documented shared context, you can make your workplace culture the strongest it has ever been! Don’t miss out on this exciting conversation!
