Yesterday, our Assistant Vice President of Planning, Kevin Thompson, participated as a panelist in the “Elevating Transportation: The Future of Advanced Air Mobility” session at the Florida Association of Counties conference. The panelists engaged in an in-depth discussion on the transformative potential of aerial transportation technologies in this emerging era of mobility. Our Aviation Authority is committed to serving as a technology incubator and a premier on-airport research and development (R&D) center for advanced air mobility (AAM) technologies. Our goal is to ultimately integrate these operations into the multimodal environment at Orlando International Airport.

In our Strategic Plan, one of our primary focuses involves connecting with our community. Recently, we held a reception for the winners of our planespotting contest, to mark the opening of our Second annual #FlyMCO Planespotting Exhibit featuring their photographs. GOAA leadership, friends, and family joined in to celebrate this exhibit which captures the beauty and wonder of aviation from the eyes of our planespotting community. We are so glad to feature the works of these talented photographers of all ages and backgrounds, who come together to share a common passion for aviation.

Professional development is key for GOAA staff, who are encouraged to attend annual conferences and network with airport executives in a variety of areas. Our Sr. Vice President of Internal Audit Tianna Dumond is president of the Association of Airport Internal Auditors and recently attended the group’s annual meeting in San Antonio. Dumond (immediate left of the poster), worked with her fellow board members to present a conference to foster and promote operational efficiency in airport management, as well as develop soundness on methodology and reviewing practices.

Today, our Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) and The Weitz Company held a traditional topping out ceremony of our Pedestrian Bridge project, in which the last structural beam was hoisted into place. 🏗 Employees who worked on the project had the opportunity to sign the beam and celebrate their achievements together with their partners and subcontractors. The Pedestrian Bridge's design and construction includes approximately 450 feet of an enclosed, air-conditioned walkway, providing comfort and facilitating connections between our Terminals and Train Station. We look forward to its opening this Fall and are excited to provide a more seamless connection for our customers, elevating the traveler journey at our airport and uplifting the Orlando Experience.
