Great Southern Wood Preserving

This week, our interns took a day out of the office to assist the Judson Baptist Association in Abbeville in their thrift store and food bank. The efforts of these future leaders equated to about 6 weeks of volunteer work for the organization. Just one day made a huge impact to those in need in our community! We ended the day with a fun team building activity and dinner at an Escape Room. They worked in groups to complete puzzles and escape some stressful situations! We hope they continue to learn and grow throughout the rest of their summer with us!

We have enjoyed another productive week with our interns! We hosted each of our interns at the Corporate office in Abbeville, AL for a few days of learning and fun. Day 1 included a comprehensive tour of all of our facilities in Abbeville. Day 2 included engaging presentations and insightful Q&A's from each of our departments, and we finished the day off with a friendly competition based on what they have learned. Each day concluded with social events. Our interns got a firsthand look at what makes us great and we trust that they are now equipped with an understanding of our company, culture, and why we do what we do! 

We have officially kicked off our 2024 Summer Intern Program! We have 21 eager students joining us this summer in Abbeville, AL, Mobile, AL, and Glenwood, AR. We also have 2 returning interns with us along with a previous intern who is back as a full time team member. We are excited to continue growing our internship program and proud to have many returning team members! It's going to be a great summer of learning, fun, and forming relationships! #GATA

Members of our team participated in the annual Southeast AlabamaWorks Worlds of Work event that hosts thousands of high school students each year in the Wiregrass region. We shared the career opportunities we have to offer, and took home the creativity and engagement award for our industry. We look forward to participating in this event each year and coming up with fun activities to engage the students!

Our Chief Legal Counsel, Drew Kelly, and guest David Warren from Ogletree Deakins, presented “Top 10 Employer Mistakes” to our local Wiregrass area SHRM chapter at their annual forum. They spoke about key information for HR professionals and provided valuable information to a wide variety of organizations in our area!
