The group was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in New York City, with active chapters in Arizona, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, New Jersey, and Silicon Valley – and active members throughout the country. Barbara Heffernan is the founder and owner of Mindful Psychotherapy, LLC, dba Awaken Joy, an online mental health education company, whose mission is to help people around the world transform their lives into ones with joy, acceptance, and authenticity. Barbara brings to Golden Seeds her diverse background from three different careers. Her first career was in Mergers and Acquisitions with leading investment banks such as Merrill Lynch and Salomon Brothers. At 38, she returned to school for her second master’s degree. In 2006, she began an independent psychotherapy business, which she successfully ran for fifteen years. Barbara's diverse career and experience growing her own company have given her valuable perspective to lend to her work with Golden Seeds, investing in early-stage companies led by women.
