Meet the SA-67. Designed for secondary port districts with constrained waterways and intermediate-scale vessel operations, the SA-67 combines superior performance with low operating cost in a 67-foot hull. With 3,000 BHP of installed power and over 40 tons of bollard pull, this compact workhorse is ready to tackle general towing, barge handling, and berthing of ships up to 60,000 DWT. Developed with adaptability in mind, the machinery spaces are sized to accommodate EPA Tier 4 engines and the integration of an optional parallel hybrid system. We do more than design. We deliver solutions that allow you to stand out from the competition and get more out of your fleet. Given the rapid advancement of decarbonization technology, Glosten is updating the Maritime Administration (MARAD)’s Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization Technical Guide and we’re looking for industry feedback. Our team has put together a survey to learn more about the information owners and operators find most valuable when identifying relevant energy efficiency and decarbonization measures. If you are in the marine industry, we want your input—take the survey below and help us ensure the guide is serving the industry the best it can! #MARAD #energyefficiency #decarbonization

Following the partial collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, Donjon Marine Co., Inc. was appointed by Unified Command to direct the salvage operation in the federal channel and enlisted our team to provide engineering support. Our naval architects joined the team on site immediately following the allision to help Donjon engineer the lift plans in preparation for hoisting the heavy bridge segments. After months of intensive engineering, the debris was successfully removed from the water. The tragedy surrounding the event and the urgency of the situation required a swift and highly coordinated response from the maritime community. This could not have been achieved without the tireless efforts of the many organizations who mobilized in Baltimore to respond to clear the wreckage, refloat the M/V Dali, and restore service to the waterway. #FrancisScottKeyBridge #emergencyresponse #salvageresponse #marineconstruction

We’re proud to announce that the preliminary design of Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s new hydrogen-hybrid Coastal-Class Research Vessel (CCRV) is complete and has been awarded Approval in Principle (AIP) by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). After extensive work with regulatory bodies to establish an approach to designing and classifying this first-of-its-kind ship, CCRV is officially an uninspected, California Air Resource Board-compliant, ABS-classed vessel and an alternative design under SOLAS. Not only does AIP show that the CCRV design meets technical requirements and safety standards, it validates the use of hydrogen-fuel-cell propulsion for medium-sized coastal vessels—an exciting development for vessel operators considering hydrogen as a solution for decarbonization. #vesseldesign #researchvessel #hydrogen #CARB

Naval architects and marine engineers have more fuels and technologies to choose from than ever before, and part of our job as a consultant is helping our clients select the design path that best fits their operations. Glosten Principal and Naval Architect Timothy Leach was featured in the latest issue of The Maritime Executive, where he weighs in on the impact of decarbonization on naval architecture and shipowners, and what approaches we are taking to keep pace with the rapid proliferation and adoption of green tech. We had the pleasure of hosting the monthly SNAME meeting at our Seattle office yesterday! Following dinner and networking, speakers Xiaoxi (Cathy) Zhang of Glosten, Brent Morrison of Herbert Engineering Corp., and Sound Experience volunteers Mark Donahue and Paul Erb gave an informative presentation on the schooner Adventuress. A National Historic Landmark, the Adventuress has been one of our favorite projects—over the years, we’ve proudly donated our services to support this symbol of the region’s maritime history. It was great to have the opportunity talk about the work that has gone into maintaining this unique vessel and mingle with our fellow marine engineers. Thanks to all who attended—we’ll see you at the next meeting! #SNAME #PacificNorthwest #SoundExperience #SchoonerAdventuress
