This week, we lost a dear friend and colleague, Dennis Rohlfs. Dennis was a visionary leader who founded Med-Trans. His experience in the Vietnam War was what inspired him to create a safe and reliable means of emergent transportation to critical patients in need. In 1982, Dennis started Med-Trans’ first helicopter operation by bringing two competing hospital systems to the table. They agreed to sharing this helicopter service to better serve the surrounding rural area of Bismarck, ND. His business concepts grew and evolved to become a national air medical service. His vision was to build a company on a foundation of premier customer service, solution agility and an industry-leading safety environment, all while promoting a family, team and partnership culture. Dennis understood that a single solution/service model did not solve all of the industry needs, nor meet the challenges of the rapidly growing and evolving emergency air medical industry. As a result, he tailored Med-Trans' solutions to the partner hospitals, EMS systems and local community. This became the model Med-Trans would embrace and use to grow the Med-Trans family brand. Dennis’ care and compassion for the employees of Med-Trans and the communities in which they served is the bedrock on which Med-Trans was built. Our condolences go out to Dennis' family, in particular his son Tom, who is a VP on our business development team, and to all of you who worked with him and knew him as a friend. His contributions to the air medical industry will not be forgotten.

In partnership with the City of Spokane Fire Department and Spokane Regional Emergency Communications (SREC), AMR is thrilled to announce the implementation of the Spokane Nurse Navigation program. This innovative healthcare solution will help area residents and visitors quickly reach the most appropriate level of medical care when calling 911. “We are excited to offer this solution to our Spokane community through our partnership with the Spokane Fire Department and Spokane Regional Emergency Communications. Adding this tool to our system will help to ensure we are getting the right resource to the right patients at the right time to meet the care needs of all. We applaud these partner agencies for their patient-focused approach to caring for the communities we serve,” states AMR Operations Manager Jack Busch. https://ow.ly/UPxe50SkVib

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share with you the passing of our friend, mentor, and leader Richard Emery Zuschlag. Richard fought the hard fight that so many with cancer and its complications have endured. While we mourn our extraordinary loss, we are comforted in knowing that he is no longer suffering. He is now in the loving arms of his Lord, in whom he had unwavering faith. Richard was a much loved and admired agent of change, not only in the state of Louisiana but across the nation. The lives he affected through his vision, generosity, inspiration, and leadership are countless. Whether a friend, employee, peer or patient, all of our lives were changed due to his undeniable determination to make a difference. His legacy endures through his beautiful family, and in every life saved, every patient helped, and in every battle he waged to ensure that all people had access to high-quality medical care. He never backed down when fighting for the things he loved most: his family, his employees, and the communities he served. His legacy also lives on in the company he tirelessly worked 53 years to grow and nurture. Acadian Companies is not just a successful organization but also serves as an example of how servant leadership, high integrity and unwavering determination create success, not for one, but for all. We will forever be changed, forever be grateful, and forever be better because of who Richard was and the lessons and legacy he has left us. He treated everyone with respect and was constantly striving to bring people together for the greater good. It is up to all of us to honor this legacy by living and leading by his example and his faith. Because of Richard, Acadian is stronger than ever, and in his honor, we will carry on his life’s work. Special thanks go out to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Dr. Charles Burnell, Dr. Jason Breaux, Paul Hamilton and the many friends and healthcare providers who attended to him. Please continue to pray for Richard, his family, friends and all those whose lives have been forever changed by this loss. Information regarding services will be provided when available. We humbly ask you to please respect the privacy of the family while arrangements are being made.
