  • We are excited to welcome two new members to our Global Arts team in this new year. Matt Brundrett has joined our faculty as our first General Music Teacher and Alexis Silva is our new Program Assistant! Matt received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Percussion Performance from the New School University in 2001. He received his K-12 music education teaching certificate from Brooklyn College in 2013. He has been teaching in the classroom for the non-profit Education Through Music - Los Angeles since 2014. Throughout his teaching career Matt has also been a regular contributing performer to the diverse music scenes in both New York, Los Angeles and around the country. He is level 2 certified in the music teaching methodologies from Orff Schulwerk and Kodaly which he uses at his current position as a TK-8th grade general music teacher at Castelar Elementary School, one of Los Angeles Unified School District’s oldest dual language immersion elementary programs established in 1882. He is excited to work with the students at Global Arts! Alexis recently graduated with a degree in music and a minor in English from UC Davis. He worked in his university's arboretum as an ambassador where he discovered he enjoyed working in community outreach and being outdoors. He is excited to be back in L.A. working alongside his former teachers, Ms. Emily and Ms. Jackie! During his free time he also enjoys reading and writing short stories and poetry about every-day life and going out on walks. Alexis has been integral to getting our new classes off the ground smoothly and in his short time volunteering with us he's created systems that are sustainable and effective. Welcome to the team!

  • Big Announcement: Giving TUNES-day is back! For Giving Tuesday, we put our own spin on it with Giving TUNES-day, and this year our goal is to provide our incredible young musicians with the opportunity of being part of their very first ensemble. That's right, for this Giving Tunes-day, we have set a goal to raise $27,800 to add one additional day of programming, which will allow us to establish our inaugural Global Arts Ensemble. It's a pivotal moment for our students, and we need your help to make it a reality! Join us this Giving TUNES-day, as we come together to create a harmonious future for these dedicated children. Your contribution, no matter how small, will make a world of difference in their lives. Learn more about Giving TUNES-day at this link, and donate today! https://lnkd.in/g9frXw2Y

  • $43,000, that was our goal, and you helped us surpass it! Thanks to all the funds raised through the second annual Global Arts Soirée, we will be able to start a new class of musicians in January. All the money raised through ticket sales, silent auction, and donations will allow us to purchase supplies, instruments, and will allow us to pay our teachers a sustainable salary. We couldn't be more grateful. Thank you to the musicians who performed, for keeping us moving on the dance floor. Thank you to all of our teachers, staff, and volunteers, for pulling off the work of a team of 20 in just a few hours. And a very special thank you to all of the parents of Global Arts, for supporting the students, bringing them to the event on a school night, and being the incredible people that you are. 📸: Connie and Richard Takenaga
