3 ways to hold space for your students in your yoga class: 👂 Practice Active Listening: Be fully present and attentive to your students' needs and concerns. Listen without interrupting, validate their experiences, and offer support. This fosters a sense of trust and connection, allowing students to feel seen and heard. ❤️ Encourage Self-Compassion and Acceptance: Remind students to honor their bodies and practice self-compassion. Emphasize that yoga is a personal journey, and it’s okay to modify poses or take breaks. Encourage them to let go of perfection and embrace where they are in their practice. 👏 Offer Guidance with Empathy and Support: Provide clear instructions and gentle adjustments, always with empathy and respect for individual boundaries. Happy #matmonday! With our partnership with lululemon we provided mats to Jennifer Boileau who a is yoga teacher trained in trauma sensitive practices, accessible yoga specifically for the law enforcement and military/veteran populations.. Jennifer shared: "The police department was hosting a youth program where the teens from the community would come in for a week and learn how different aspects of emergency response operated, get to meet the officers, and try different aspects of law enforcement first hand. I offered to come in and teach the kids the same practices that I'm using with the officers (trauma informed yoga and iRest meditation) and it was a huge success. The skills were applicable not only on the mat, but off as well as they shared struggles of home life difficulties and school stressors. Seeing that this is how their police and medic role models were also engaged in the practices is one of the ways we can create that bridge on the mat...and have it show up out in the community as well." The parents of the children are telling the school administrators how their kids are much calmer, and less anxious and stressed.
