    Although a show like Expo West accomplishes the Herculean task of bringing the entire CPG universe together in one spot at the same time, and although there is immeasurable value in doing that, there is something to be said about the intimacy and approachability of a smaller, sector-specific show like Beauty Connect. How amazing is it to watch a seed-stage founder have a casual and uninterrupted chat with a legendary founder like Ju Rhyu, over a coffee and a clementine, in an exhibition hall the size of Expo West’s badge check-in desk? How fun is it to network with the sector’s most well-known investors, bankers, lenders and service providers, at the lobby bar of the only hotel where everyone is staying? How encouraging is it to request one-on-one meetings with people you want to connect with, and have nearly everyone accept your invite? Last summer, Nick and Ryan gave me the green light to make a more purposeful push into the beauty and personal care space. As a law firm, we had been lucky enough to work with quite a few amazing brands over the years (Malin & Goetz, Hero Cosmetics, Hello Toothpaste, etc.), with no dedicated marketing effort, but we knew we could inject a LOT more good into the ecosystem (and hopefully onboard more clients) by giving the sector the more focused attention it deserves. Beauty Connect 2022 was our under-the-radar litmus test. Cosmoprof 2023 was our “Hi, we are here!” clinical trial. Beauty Connect 2023 was our “Okay, this definitely makes sense.” proof of concept. The snowball seems to be rolling — we are working with more beauty and personal care brands than ever before. Day to day contracts, celebrity partnerships, financings, M&A — all of it. But the best part is? We are having so much fun. Just as we have always done in the world of CPG. It all feels so familiar, and it makes us feel so grateful. This week was no exception. Special shout-out to my amazing wingwoman, Gabrielle McGonagle, my amazing co-panelists Carolyn Naporlee-Cipolla, Timothy Sousa and Ju Rhyu, and my amazing event co-host, Lauren Antion for an unforgettable three days in Hollywood.
