It's not a great day for Intel Corporation and some 15,000 workers. In the earning call last week the CPU giant revealed that while they hit their revenue target numbers this past quarter there are storm clouds on the horizon. Challenges from #AI companies as well as issues with some of their most recent chip designs has Pat Gelsinger looking to cut costs. The way that was expressed to the industry was through massive layoffs. Intel is shedding 15% of their overall workforce and suspending the payment of dividends through the end of the year. Analysts, including our own Daniel Newman of The Futurum Group, have said that Intel Corporation is facing some headwinds and they have projects on the table that they need to deliver upon. This and more on The #Rundown. Thanks Jon Swartz for cohosting with Tom Hollingsworth this week.

In this Networking Field Day #NFD35 article, Sulagna Saha writes about the ongoing debate on whether hardware or software drives innovation, likening it to the chicken-and-egg dilemma. While software has surged in importance, particularly with the rise of #AI and digital transformation, the hardware remains crucial, especially for powering specialized workloads. The article concludes that hardware and software are symbiotically linked, each enhancing the other's capabilities, making it impossible to determine a single driving force behind innovation.

The #EU has decided there are no concerns with the Juniper Networks being acquired by Hewlett Packard Enterprise. According to a report released last week, the commission doing the investigation decided that the merger would not significantly reduce the competition in the #networking market. This analysis was helped by the fact that HPE and Juniper are not the closest of competitors, according to investigators. The deal is not expected to be analyzed by #China due to it falling below an investigation threshold, leaving the US Federal Trade Commission as the last hurdle. This and more on The #Rundown. In this Networking Field Day #NFD35 article, Sulagna Saha writes about the rapid advancement in networking technologies, emphasizing the significant innovations seen in recent years. The Intel Corporation Infrastructure Processing Unit (IPU), co-designed with Google, exemplifies this progress by offloading infrastructure services from the CPU to an improved Network Interface Card (NIC), thereby enhancing performance and providing greater control for cloud service providers.

Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) is a very popular topic in the modern enterprise. It promises a way to consume networking technologies in the same way that one would purchase cloud computing by only charging users for what they need. In this episode of the Tech Field Day podcast, Jordan Martin, Micheline Murphy, and Robb Boyd join Tom Hollingsworth as they discuss the various ways that Network-as-a-Service can be expressed in an organization. They debate the merits of the operational model versus the financial aspects and how NaaS blends into the wider industry trends.

In this #CiscoLive article, Sulagna Saha writes on The #OODA loop, standing for observe, orient, decide, and act, is a key decision-making model known for its effectiveness in combat operations. Cisco XDR is built to hyper-enable this loop in #cybersecurity, described by distinguished engineer Matthew Robertson as “an efficiency tool for Security Operations Center”.

In this Cisco Live US article, Sulagna Saha writes on the inevitable trade-off of upgrading to a new technology, which often results in complex operational workloads for network operators. Cisco's Nexus One Fabric Experience aims to simplify this by providing a unified management solution for different data center network fabrics, making operations more consistent and reducing the technical burden. #CiscoLiveUS #TFDx
