Even as we enjoy the long days of summer, we are also looking forward to the upcoming academic year. I am pleased to share this news about four new faculty joining us here in the Georgia Tech School of Architecture this fall. (left to right) Hui Cai, Professor, pursues research focused on using a performance-driven and evidence-based design approach to analyze the relationship between culture, human behavior, and the physical environment, especially in healthcare settings and healthy communities. Michael Stradley, 2024 Ventulett NEXT Fellow, is a designer and educator interested in the transformative, disruptive, and sometimes surprising potential of emerging and defunct technology. Hyojin Kwon, Assistant Professor, engages in research, teaching, and projects that explore how digital media transforms not only the internal methodologies of the design fields but also broader cultural, environmental, philosophical, and socio-political contexts. Hugo Sheward, Senior Lecturer, has worked in the development of design tools and software specification for the United States General Services Administration and for the implementation of BIM tools for the purpose of laboratory design.

I wrapped up my time as the Georgia Tech School of Architecture 2022-2024 Ventulett NEXT Fellow with an installation in the Hinman courtyard. A tower framed in dimensional lumber is surrounded by models produced as part of my research and teaching work during my time at Tech. The tower's footprint is open on all four sides to create a space for repose within the courtyard, and the larger lumber size at the base (2x8s, with 2x4s in the top layer) allows for smaller process models to be displayed on the blocking. The surrounding models sit on a custom-made pedestals aligned with the grid of the Hinman courtyard pavers.

I am thrilled to share this exciting news from the Georgia Tech School of Architecture! Congratulations to Lyriel Todd and her professor, Bryce Truitt, for their third place recognition in the Lyceum Fellowship competition! I am particularly proud of the fact that Lyriel's winning project is from her Spring 2024 First Year undergraduate design studio. https://lnkd.in/emYX5tyk
