Always an exciting seascape when you catch wind turbine components being transported offshore to their construction site! In this case, another turbine topside set heading for Vineyard Wind 1; tower pieces, nacelle, and blades. (June 29, west of Cuttyhunk Island). I am fortunate that some days this is the view from my office. And this is just the beginning in the Massachusetts Wind Energy Area! Much more to come so stay tuned.

This one is special to me, as Geo SubSea has been involved in the project since the very beginning (2016) when it was a handful of people in the New Bedford office as “Offshore MW”. It’s the product of a phenomenal team working closely together to achieve a historic permit approval, despite the numerous curve balls thrown at us and constantly being under the microscope every step of the way. In many ways we did forge the path for all other projects to follow. I’ve been in the offshore wind industry since 2000 so it is very gratifying to finally see the industry taking off in the US. It is here to stay. Congratulations to all the project teams around the globe building our renewable future, we are doing very important work for society. I need to thank Vineyard Wind for including us in this award and the staff at Geo SubSea who spent many hours and years supporting this project and continue to do so. Full steam ahead on many other offshore projects! #vineyardwind #offshorewind #teamwork #ebc #apexawards #geosubsea #renewableenergy

Sandi Scripa and I attended the Reuters Offshore Wind USA conference this week and had an excellent time making new connections and seeing existing associates! Thank you to Michael King for inviting me on the workshop panel to discuss potential approaches to data acquisition that could lead to downstream project cost savings. Appreciate all the insight from fellow panelists Deanne Hargrave and Owen Rataj on the subject and open dialogue created by the workshop forum. Look forward to the next one!

Extending a warm welcome to our 2024 summer intern, Arlette Aguilera! We are super excited to have her working with our team this year. Arlette will be a senior at Wesleyan University this fall and is double majoring in Earth & Environmental Sciences (geology basically) and Environmental Studies. Last semester she completed some environmental field studies in Turks and Caicos and has done school excursions in Palmer, Alaska as well. Arlette is heavily involved in the Sustainability Office at Wesleyan and enjoys all things outdoors. She is passionate about renewable energy and focused on ways we can all reduce our impact on the earth and its climate. She will fit in perfectly here at GSS! #offshorewind #wesleyanuniversity #renewableenergy #sustainability

Our Marine DTS platform continues to gather momentum and offers solutions for a wide variety of scientific data online mapping and presentation, review and analysis, dissemination of files and results, project tracking, and more. Each online system is customized to your specific project needs. It is currently being utilized by developers, federal agencies, and unique stakeholder groups. Let's start a conversation if this might be an asset for your project.
Geo SubSea is proud to introduce our visionary offshore industry digital online tool, the Marine Data Transfer System (MDTS), designed specifically for expediting data and project information to reviewers and end users who need access to key marine scientific results for conducting their subject assessments and analyses. The first application of the tool has been developed in response to the Native American Tribes who have been requesting a centralized, easier repository for their marine archaeology data and information regarding ancient submerged landforms for some time. We heard you loud and clear!, and acted on this request as a way to enhance the Tribal engagement and transfer of important information that is a critical part of the BOEM Section 106 consultation process. All data and results supporting the marine archaeological assessment for the Vineyard Wind 1 COP (many years) and ensuing MOA mitigation work have been integrated into a user friendly, simple online platform to make remote viewing efficient and organized (and highly secure for housing confidential information (such as the cultural resource results). In conjunction with Vineyard Wind we continue the tradition of creating more “firsts” in the industry that seek to establish better communication and trusted relationships with key project reviewers that can be built upon for years to come. We will continue to roll out these websites for future projects and other subject matter (benthic and EFH mapping and more) where this approach provides a robust solution for data sharing.

Nice to see all the offshore wind construction activity in New Bedford Harbor over the past week! Components inbound for the Marine Commerce Terminal that get efficiently turned around and headed offshore for installation of the Vineyard Wind 1 wind turbine generators. Industry progress continues on a daily basis and builds momentum going forward. Great work by this team and all development groups.

Great seeing everyone this week at the Oceantic Network IPF Conference in New Orleans! Jeff Motti and I appreciated all your time spent in discussions concerning the industry and ways we can support our partners and associates. Good positive outlook and trajectory for offshore wind! Thank you to the host for assembling informative sessions on a wide variety of topics. Talk to you all soon.
