Backyard Sculpture Update! If you haven't seen it yet... There's a large egg shaped sculpture taking shape in the Generator parking lot! The project is by Clay Mohrman, a Burlington artist who specializes in combining wood and LED technology. He recently collaborated with Phoebe Lo (@phoebelostudio) on a large installation at the Burlington airport, and this new project is slated to be installed in a park outside of Burlington. Every day that the weather cooperates Clay and Alex are out back building and overcoming all of the different challenges that arise when you take an idea that exists in your mind and attempt to translate it into the real world. Sometimes things go as you expect... Sometimes they don't. If you'd like to know more go check out Clay's Instagram (@claymohrlighting). He's been posting regularly about the project and sharing some insights into his process. Also, if you're ever in Burlington's South End, don't hesitate to swing by Generator and check out what's going on... There's always something interesting happening here!

Founder of Local Maverick : A platform to discover, shop, & experience the best of local

Is Vermont’s “culture” preventing us from having a more diverse population? If we build more houses are they only going to benefit the rich? What happens if we don’t recruit more young people and continue to have one of the country’s oldest populations? Is Vermont f’ed? Join Local Maverick on Thursday, July 18th at The GENERATOR for our next Making Mavericks speaker event, featuring Kevin Chu, Executive Director of the Vermont Futures Project 🌟 I will be sitting down with Kevin to explore the questions above and their mission question: “How can we use data to support the evolution of Vermont’s economy toward a thriving future full of opportunity for all” Kevin is ready to answer all these questions and will be 'busting myths' about Vermont’s economy, environment, and equity via data 🌱📈 Do you want to question Kevin too? There will be time after our chat to ask Kevin questions directly and have open conversations about Vermont’s future! In addition to the speaking portion... - APPALACHIAN GAP DISTILLERY, INC. will be on-site serving small batch Vermont libations 🍹✨ - We will be running a Flood Relief Raffle! During the event, you can purchase raffle tickets to win local gift boxes. All proceeds will go to the Intervale Farmer Recovery Fund. Intervale Center 🌾❤️ 📅 Mark your calendar, grab your tickets (link below), and let’s make Vermont’s future brighter together! 🌟 Tickets:

Summer Camps are in full swing here at Generator! We are just wrapping up week 1 of a 2-week partnership with Flynn Center called Return To Planet Cardboard! During this past week our youth participants were here at Generator utilizing our lasers, 3d printers, sewing machines, electronics studio and more to make cardboard props, costumes, and set pieces that light up, make noises, and glow in the dark. During week two the campers will move to the Flynn Center where they will continue developing their story before their final performance on the last day. It's been so much fun sharing our space with this highly energetic and creative group, and we can't wait to see the final performance!

Our team loves hosting these kinds of events, and these thank you cards really hit us in the feels! #TechEducation #generatormakerspace #makerspace #DreamLearnBuild #ThisIsVT #Vermont

Many thanks to Meg Hammond, Mason Merriam, Veronica Newton and Emily Eley who provided our national and international guests with such an engaging tour, presentation and conversation about GENERATOR’s makerspace and Jumpstart entrepreneurship education program.  This "field trip" was a fun and informative part of last week's inaugural USASBE Rural Entrepreneurship Symposium here at the University of Vermont Grossman School of Business, which included exciting visits to local entrepreneurial hubs here in Burlington Vermont.  Rural Entrepreneurship (A USASBE SIG) USASBE- United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship

Meet Generator's Summer Interns... Susan and Evelyn! Evelyn and Susan are students at Middlebury College participating in the Middlebury Innovation Hub’s Vermont Innovation Summer, a program that supports students working at companies and on self-directed projects across Vermont’s innovation ecosystem. This summer Susan and Evelyn will be working at Generator supporting our youth programs, and working on a variety of fabrication and communication projects. They've already jumped head first into learning about the vinyl and laser cutters, 3d printing, and are signed up for sewing, metal, and wood shop trainings as well. We have really been enjoying their energy and enthusiasm so far, and are looking forward to spending the rest of the summer working on projects and introducing kids to the design thinking process and collaborative problem solving! The next time you’re in be sure to say hello, and if you'd like to learn a little bit more about Susan and Evelyn head over to the Generator Blog for a short Q&A with them both!
