About us

A project of George Kaiser Family Foundation, A Gathering Place for Tulsa will transform nearly 100 acres of Tulsa’s waterfront along the Arkansas River into a dynamic and active space. A Gathering Place for Tulsa will blend nature with an urban setting providing Tulsans and visitors more space to play, relax and gather together along the river. The park, centrally located, will include features such as a lodge, boathouse, nature walks, two land bridges connecting the two sides of river parks, sporting areas and a pond.

    BIG NEWS! 🏆 Gathering Place is officially USA TODAY's Best City Park for 2024! After being chosen by an expert panel and USA TODAY 10Best editors, Gathering Place was featured in a readers’ choice contest along with 19 other city parks across the United States before being voted #1 by the public. This USA TODAY reader’s choice recognition marks the third win for Gathering Place in five years, following its prior recognition as USA TODAY’s Best New Attraction in 2019 and Best City Park in 2021.   The Gathering Place team is so grateful for the incredible support we have received from the Tulsa community, and we are blown away by how Tulsans rallied around the vote to boost the park to the number one spot.     Congratulations to Juan José Miret Carrasquero on being appointed as the next President of San Miguel School of Tulsa! 🎉 Juan is a longtime supporter of Gathering Place, and is even known as "Mr. 100 Days" around the park as he visited Gathering Place every day for the first 100 days of opening.     “I am happy to share that the Board of Directors has appointed Juan José Miret as the next President of San Miguel,” said Dr. Curt Adams, Chairman of the Board of Directors and founder of the school. Roger Carter is retiring after 46 years in education. “We are forever grateful to Roger,” said Adams. “Juan is ready for this opportunity. He is the right person to lead the school toward future dreams and possibilities.” “It is an extraordinary honor to serve in this new position. It’s a dream come true,” Miret said. “Being part of San Miguel brings great joy. We are witnessing the growth and personal formation of our students as they grow to become leaders and ambassadors of hope who want to bring change to the world. The book aims to inspire travelers to explore unique and affordable alternatives to traditional vacation spots around the world. In "Here Not There," Gathering Place is highlighted as a unique urban green space, serving as an alternative to Central Park in New York City. Nelson praises Gathering Place’s innovative design, high-production programming, public art installations, lavish landscaping, and unique location near Route 66.     Route 66 is gearing up to celebrate its centennial in 2026, and there are a lot of exciting initiatives happening around the city, state, and country! 1️⃣ Welcome to Tulsa, Stella Atom! Last Friday, Buck Atom's Cosmic Curios on 66 welcomed the Cosmic Cowgirl to the Route 66 storefront. 2️⃣ Tulsa officially claims the title of the Capital of Route 66! This week, Tulsa secured a copyright on the term, signifying the city's importance to the Mother Road. 3️⃣ University of Oklahoma Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication students and faculty are traveling from Norman, Oklahoma to Santa Monica, California via Route 66 to capture the essence of the iconic Mother Road. Along the way, the group is meeting with OU alumni to uncover amazing stories. The journey supports the Gaylord Route 66 Student Experience Fund, which helps students work on the Route 66 centennial campaign and covers associated costs.     Visit The Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art and enter the world of American masculinity and pop culture through the lens of the iconic Ken doll and his companions in "Beyond the Mold: Unpacking Ken Doll's Evolution." This captivating museum exhibit traces Ken's transformation from his debut in 1961to the present day, showcasing vintage Ken, Brad, Allan, and other male dolls in Mattel's Barbie universe.     We had an incredible time at the 2024 Basketball Showcase powered by the The Wayman Tisdale Foundation on Saturday, June 15! 🏀✨Young basketball players from all over Tulsa huddled up at Gathering Place to sharpen their skills, learn from the best, and compete in exciting challenges.
