About us
GAR Foundation was established in 1967 by Galen and Ruth Roush as a means of continuing their service to the Akron community for generations to come. Along with his brother Carroll Roush, Galen founded Roadway Express during the Great Depression in 1930. By 1939, Roadway was the largest long-haul trucking company in the United States. The Foundation returns approximately $7.5 million annually to the community in the areas of education; economic, workforce, and community development; arts and culture; and basic needs.

GAR Foundation reposted this
In 2019, our region’s Elevate Greater Akron initiative identified the need for making bigger bets on our economic future - this led to the creation of the Polymer Industry Cluster. 5 years later and the work of many organizations, partners, and individuals led to Akron's recent $51M implementation grant award. This money creates a destination in our region for attracting new businesses, private investment, talent, jobs, and sustainability advances. To learn more about the work that went into receiving this grant and the opportunity it represents for Greater Akron, read this Akron Beacon Journal/Ohio.com column from our own Steve Millard and Brian Anderson: https://ow.ly/SlWe50SEFQ4
