💡 Pavement Crack Detection 💡 Client: Aluminum Refiner 🎯 Site Challenges: The aging infrastructure has led to pavement deterioration, posing safety risks and maintenance challenges. Traditional inspection methods are slow and often inaccurate, leading to inefficiencies and escalated repair costs. Previous methods, like truck-mounted scanning, provided poor georeferencing, complicating year-over-year comparisons. Additionally, monitoring pavement cracks is crucial for regulatory compliance due to potential underground contamination risks. 🚀 Our Approach: We utilized advanced AI modeling with a UNet model and super high-resolution drone imagery for detailed crack detection. This method enabled efficient processing, classifying small areas rapidly and demonstrating the model’s quick response capabilities. 🌿 Invasive Plant Species Identification with Galago🌿  At Galago, we are dedicated to providing innovative solutions to environmental challenges. Together with National Highways UK, we cooperated to tackle the issue of giant hogweed, one of the most problematic invasive species in the UK.  Site Challenges ➡ Giant hogweed, originally introduced as an ornamental plant, has become a significant concern for landowners and managers due to its rapid spread and harmful effects. Its presence poses risks to both the environment and public health, making effective management essential.  Our Approach ➡ To address this challenge, Galago employed cutting-edge technology and expertise. We utilized very high-resolution drone imagery collected on-demand to capture detailed views of the affected areas. This data was then processed into Orthomosaic maps and elevation products, providing a comprehensive overview of the landscape.  Our team developed a machine learning model specifically designed to automate the detection of giant hogweed. This model was trained to accurately identify and map the locations of giant hogweed, even in areas not visible from the ground. By combining drone imagery with advanced ML techniques, we ensured precise and reliable results.  Results ✔The implementation of our approach led to significant outcomes:  ◾ We successfully mapped the locations of giant hogweed, highlighting the affected areas in orange.  ◾The extent of giant hogweed infestation was quantified, providing crucial data for effective planning and management.  ◾The information gathered was made available for planning, mitigation, and management, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions.  ◾Areas of infestation that were previously undetectable from the ground were identified, showcasing the power of our aerial imagery and ML capabilities.  ◾Our process proved to be faster and more accurate than traditional methods, offering a replicable and scientifically defensible solution.  By leveraging advanced drone technology and machine learning, Galago has set a new standard in the identification and management of invasive plant species.
