We’re a new place-centered nonprofit focused on the transformation of Friendship Heights through placemaking, neighborhood promotion, and economic development. Friendship Heights is a bustling, mixed-use neighborhood with a dynamic mix of office, retail, and residential. A convenient crossroads for residents, visitors, and workers alike, the neighborhood has been known for decades as a premier regional shopping destination with a myriad of transit options and high-value office space. We’re in the process of transitioning to a neighborhood-focused retail mix with a more dynamic, walkable, and people-centered built environment. Using feedback from the community, we have initiated a range of events and programs to demonstrate what is possible when multiple stakeholders collaborate: including four pop-up art shows, four community makers markets, on-street seating and landscaping installations, a temporary bookstore, and more to come.
