Freeman recently announced taking over operations of the emergency department at the former Ft. Scott hospital while also establishing 10 inpatient beds in the building. The community has been without dependable healthcare since the beginning of 2024. Frank Fletcher Subaru of Joplin employees, teaming up with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, dropped off over 80 plush blankets inside big blue boxes, along with dozens of handwritten messages of hope for local patients fighting cancer, to the Freeman Cornell-Beshore Cancer Institute Wednesday afternoon. Every three minutes in the United States, a new patient is diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. The blankets keep patients warm during chemotherapy treatments.
