Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani, and other deep-pocketed investors worth a collective $126 billion own franchises in Major League Cricket. But launching a new major sports league in the United States has long been a sticky wicket. https://lnkd.in/e2CqmN53

The absence of women on this year's top-earning athletes list is glaring. Polish tennis sensation Iga Świątek, the highest-paid female athlete in 2023, earned a total of $23.9 million, a mere fraction of the $45.2 million needed to secure a spot among 2024's top 50 athletes. Moreover, the entry threshold for the list has nearly doubled over the past decade, further widening the gap between male and female athletes. Since 2012, only four women have graced the list: Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Li Na, and Naomi Osaka. With Williams' retirement last year, the top 50 is a stark testament to the lack of financial parity, largely driven by significant disparities in league revenue, media rights deals, and sponsorship opportunities between men's and women's sports.

Olympic-bound Erling Haaland is among the world’s youngest highest-paid athletes for 2024. The dynamic Manchester City striker had a historic first season in the Premier League, setting the record for most goals scored in a season as his team won the league title as well as the FA Cup and Champions League, the second-ever continental treble by an English club. As one of the new faces of world soccer, the 24-year-old Norwegian was rewarded with a massive Nike contract, the cover of the EA SPORTS FC24 video game, and endorsement deals from fashion (Dolce & Gabbana), fitness (Prime Hydration) and lifestyle (Beats By Dre) brands.

In India, cricket is widely considered the most popular sport in the country, both by participation and viewership. Yet as successful as it may be in the UK and other former British colonies, the sport has hardly gained a foothold in the United States. But 62-year-old Anurag Jain—chairman of Access Healthcare, a Dallas-based healthcare company—and a group of deep-pocketed investors—including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan and Jain’s co-owner, Texas real estate developer Ross Perot Jr.—are betting they can finally change that. Meet the billionaires banking on an American cricket league: https://trib.al/o09DR7I

The IRS is warning taxpayers not to fall for bad advice on social media, including from those touting a non-existent “Self Employment Tax Credit.” Promoters are also misrepresenting the fuel tax credit and sharing bad info on the child tax credit.
