We are dedicated to eliminating hunger in Alaska by obtaining and providing food to partner agencies statewide.

About us

Food Bank of Alaska partners with the food industry to rescue surplus food from grocery stores, wholesalers, producers, farmers, and the fishing industry. We also collect food donations from the community and manage government food programs. This food is distributed statewide to 150 partner food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, and children's programs, ensuring our neighbors in need are nourished. Founded in 1979, Food Bank of Alaska was established with the belief that there's no excuse for hunger and a mission to prevent good food from going to waste. Today, 1 in 7 Alaskans, including 1 in 5 children, faces hunger. Your generosity allows us to provide nutritious food to children, families, and seniors who need it most. We welcome volunteers eager to make a difference. For corporate donations and event sponsorships, please contact us to learn how you can support our mission to eliminate hunger in Alaska. Join us in making a lasting impact on our community!

Happy Birthday to our incredible Chief Advocacy Officer, Rachael Miller! 🎉 From her first job transplanting pepper plants in a greenhouse at age 12 to her current role leading advocacy efforts at the Food Bank of Alaska, Rachael's journey is nothing short of inspiring. With degrees in Marketing, Psychology, and a Master’s in Global Impact, she's dedicated her career to making a real difference in our community. Rachael has been a powerhouse in building Alaska's business support ecosystem and boosting food literacy with the Alaska Food Policy Council. One of her most rewarding experiences was serving in the Peace Corps in Benin, where she learned the true meaning of humility, generosity, and sustainable change. In addition to her advocacy work, Rachael is also a professor at Alaska Pacific University, where she shares her knowledge and passion with the next generation of leaders. Her staff describe her as a dedicated, strong leader, an influential, and a positive role model. As Carrie Huck, one of our team members, puts it: "Rachael is a dynamic and hard-working leader for our department. She is someone I admire as a role model for being easily approachable, a great listener, and for offering new ideas and feedback to our team." When she’s not advocating for a better food system, you'll find Rachael on a boat on the Upper Kenai River or exploring the world of travel and food. Her advice to her younger self and others? "Don't take your foot off the gas." Let's celebrate Rachael’s phenomenal contributions to our community and wish her a fantastic birthday today! 🎂

Food Bank of Alaska is seeking 5 donations of experience-based gifts, such as event tickets, vacation packages, dining experiences, and adventure outings, to support the 10 Chefs for 10 Causes event we are benefitting from. At the event, the incredible skills of chefs, combined with good food and wine, benefit the Anchorage community by partnering with ten local charitable organizations. The net proceeds are split equally among each of the selected non-profit organizations. The funds raised from 10 Chefs for 10 Causes will support our mission-driven work to feed Alaskans and their families, along with the work of 9 other local nonprofit organizations. On behalf of our Board and Staff, we kindly ask you to consider contributing an item for 10 Chefs for 10 Causes. All donations, whether a gift card or experience package, are greatly appreciated! If you decide to donate a silent auction piece or package, please share information about your donation at the email below. It's helpful if items are received no later than September 23. For more information, contact Jenny Di Grappa, MPA at 907-222-3102 or email jdigrappa@foodbankofalaska.org. Thank you for believing in our mission! This week, several groups of amazing volunteers helped us build nearly 2,200 food boxes for eligible seniors statewide. Today alone, we packed 593 boxes with the incredible support of our longstanding volunteers and the 301 Intelligence Squadron. Thank you. We couldn’t serve our neighbors in need without your unwavering support. 🤎

We had an inspiring morning with Credit Union 1 Alaska and their Community Service Committee, discussing the critical food insecurity needs across Alaska. For over 16 years, Credit Union 1 has stood by us, contributing nearly half a million meals to support our communities. The credit union philosophy of “people helping people” perfectly aligns with our mission of feeding Alaskans in need. Together, we’re committed to making a difference. Special thanks to Tiarra Gustin and John Guintu for hosting us and your incredible dedication and support. #PeopleHelpingPeople #LeadingChange #FeedingAlaska
