About us

The Florida Society of Pathologists (FSP) is the voice for all pathologists working in the frequently intense field of pathological medicine. FSP not only monitors legislation affecting the ability of physicians to work in our hospital and laboratory environments, but works closely with, and is officially recognized as a state specialty organization of the Florida Medical Association and the College of American Pathologists. FSP consistently produces quality CME medical meetings offering National and International featured speakers and an excellent opportunity for our colleagues to meet formally and informally to discuss the present and anticipate future challenges of our profession.

President at Florida Society of Pathologists

Florida pathologists had a strong showing at the CAP’s House of Delegates Spring Meeting, Pathologists Leadership Summit 2024, and the Hill Day visit. In one visit of a congressional office, among the eleven pathologists at the meeting, the combined year of experience in pathology was >250 years. Our passionate and knowledgeable team was composed of 3 generations of pathologists including the colleagues with 40 years of experience and 3 pathology residents. The entire team of executive officers of the Florida Society of Pathologists (FSP) were in Washington, DC at #PLS24. The issues discussed with our federal leaders included: #1. The CAP urges members of Congress to cosponsor and pass: H.R. 2474, the Strengthening Medicare for Patients and Providers Act, which applies an inflationary update to the physician fee schedule, H.R. 6371, the Provider Stability Reimbursement Act of 2023 to modify the physician fee schedule’s budget neutrality requirements, and mitigate the Medicare cuts for 2025 and beyond until policies stabilizing the Medicare payment system are enacted. #2. Please pass S. 665/H.R. 4942, the Conrad State 30 and Physician Access Authorization Act, that reauthorizes the Conrad 30 waiver program for three years, makes improvements to the program, and increases the number of waivers granted to each state. #3. We also urge Congress to pass legislation, the Saving Access to Laboratory Services Act (S. 1000/H.R. 2377), SALSA, to reduce the administrative burden on laboratories and ensure accurate collection of private market data through statistically valid sampling from all laboratory segments while avoiding drastic cuts to clinical laboratory payment rates. We need to improve how data is collected and validated under the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA; P.L. 113-93), to ensure an accurate, market-based payment system for laboratories paid through the Medicare clinical laboratory fee schedule (CLFS). This would allow laboratories to focus on providing timely, high quality clinical laboratory services for patients, continuing to innovate, and building the infrastructure necessary to protect public health. I thank the CAP for being the best champion for pathologists and organizing this advocacy effort. I thank FSP and Moffitt Cancer Center for supporting me and my colleagues doing this.
